Attaching appliqués to a tulle veil, can anyone help?

icklesal, 4 January, 2015 at 10:27 Posted on Planning 0 6

Ive made my own veil, it's curently plain tulle but I would like to attach some appliqués that match whats on my dress. Its the exact same stuff, couldn't believe it when I found it.

anyway, does anyone have any tips on how to attach them? They are lace with some beading on.

should I glue, stitch or even use wonder web?

ive googled and seem to get different answers wherever I look.

i have plenty of tulle so can always make another veil if I stuff this one up but the appliqué was about £9 a meter so don't really wanna ruin that. I only want to add 2/3 pieces just so that it's not as plain.

any advice greatly appreciated

I'd try hand stitching as a first option, and see what that looks like, it's easier to take off and try another option if you don't like how it sits if you know what I mean. (i mean just put a few holding stitches in, I don't know what the material is like, but I don't think you should need to stitch the entire way round the applique, others may disagree with me though)

That's a good idea. Never thought about that. Would hate to put them on and it look really naff. Will tack them on first

Where did you find the border to match your dress! How lucky! I want to make my veil too but haven't gotten round to choosing my tulle or appliques yet. I went to Berwick Street in London to look at their fabric shops which was lovely but so expensive!

I think I would hand stitch by over sewing the edges. Where did you get your appliques from as I am looking for some to match a dress too

I can't believe that they match. I'm very lucky!

I got them from Abakhan haberdashery in Hanley, Stoke on Trent. They have a website I think.

im gonna give sewing them I a go, thank you.

I would deffo only hand-stitch it on. Wundaweb would make it stiff and glue would be messy. Hand-stitching is the only way imvho. Pin it into place first then just lightly stitch using the pattern to hide your stitches.x

I didn't think wonder web was a great idea when I read it online, seemed a bit unsightly.

ok, I'm gonna give this a go. Wish me luck!

    thanks for advice everyone
