Average cost of a wedding DJ

Hannah72, 15 March, 2012 at 18:46 Posted on Planning 0 27

Hi all,

Hoping you could help me out by letting me know how much you're paying for your evening DJ? I really wanted to have a band in the evening but I also want to have a guy to play acoustic guitar and sing during the day so figured I'd have to compromise on the evening entertainment and just get a DJ instead to keep costs down. I have had a quote which is for a guy with a beautiful voice to sing during the day and then his band play in the night for £1100 which is probably more than I want to spend but I'm really tempted. If you could give me an idea of what the DJ's are charging I'll be able to decided if I make the sensible choice or not!

Thanks very much xx

For a DJ in Kent for 7:30-midnight, I've been quoted:

    1) £560

    2) £275

    3) £395

    4) £395

So... it looks like around here the average is just under £400.

We're based in Suffolk and our DJ quotes £485. We paid less than this because they had special offer on so we got it for 2011 prices.

I'm having a 5 piece band who DJ inbetween their sets. So they will play two 45 min sets and then DJ in between for £750!! Smiley smile They are fabulous too.

They are also bringing their own PA with that which will save me some money as I've forked out for staging and lighting because our venue needs a bit of extra oomph!

They are going to start at 7pm and play through until the bitter end! ?

I am going to throw in a couple of hotel rooms nearby and food and drink for them, I have worked in the music business since I was 16 so deal with that kind of thing regularly. They didn't ask for anything other than a few drinks and some sandwiches but I want to look after them.

We had a band, we paid £950 for a 5 peice they played 3 x 45min sets and they were fantastic worth every single penny. We then created 3 playlists on our Ipod and played it during the inetrvals it worked a treat.

We found this service for our wedding as we had a band but didn't want to shell out on a wedding DJ as well. They took our playlist and made a great mix for us which we just loaded onto an iPod and played on the night. Great mix, great service, worth a look: www.mypartymix.co.uk.

A mate with a camera is not a photographer

Just as if I took a radio to a wedding I am not a DJ,

Better yet if I was to ware a drum and cymbals and mouth organ when I am running about then I could even say you are getting a band ?

I'm paying £680 which is for a ceilidh band for a couple of hours then a DJ takes over until 1am. I thought it was a great deal for 6 hours of entertainment in Edinburgh, I was expecting to pay a lot more.

Ours is £250 from approx 7.30 till midnight. This is mates rates though I think as he is an old school friend of my sister. I doubt he's much more though as it's such a distant friend.

£200 from 7.30 to midnight... that's in Cambs.

some venues will want to see evidence of Public Liability Insurance and PAT tested equipment too. (well ours does - their in-house DJ is £345.
