Average price of photography and videography?

Millie, 19 September, 2024 at 15:26 Posted on Planning 0 2
I am looking to book a photographer and videographer for our 2026 wedding and wondered how much on average these usually are? I am not sure if the quotes I’m receiving are reasonable

Its almost impossible to give an average as there are so any variables and a big factor is where in the country you are getting married. Then there is the length of the coverage which could be from prep to first dance and a bit of the evening party or just 2 hours covering the ceremony.

I think East Sussex could be a more expensive area than others though, also the time of year will affect the price as August bank holiday may be higher than Feb or March.

Then if you are looking at someone who only has a facebook page and no website then you can expect them to be the lower end of the price scale.

Look on the facebook group called wedding scammers dont let them win - might save you making a mistake.

Also this one called Wedding scams, brides & companies to be aware of

Like Bill says, you can't give an average price because there are so many variables. For example, our photographer offered a 'mini' package for small, midweek or off season weddings, so we paid £450 for photos of our ceremony and formal portraits/informal pictures post ceremony. They would have charged more than three times that if we'd wanted to include bridal prep, wedding breakfast, evening party etc. (And we were South Wales, which is quite a cheap area - I'd expect to pay a lot more elsewhere)

The best way of knowing if you are getting a reasonable quote for your area is to make sure you are comparing like with like. If you have four photographers each quoting you around the same amount for the same coverage, then that's probably the average price for your area. If there are huge differences, it's worth a closer look to find out why - is one newly established, so charging less to attract a client base? Is one offering a more limited service, e.g. you only get 40 photos as part of your set fee and have to pay for any more individually? Is one right outside your area and charging extra for travel time? Sometimes, a very expensive photographer can just be one who is the 'must have' photographer of the moment and they can charge whatever they want within reason because of it, even if they're not a lot better than anyone else. So if one person is charging a lot more than anyone else, don't assume it's because they are better or provide more!
