Just got back off holiday and back to work. Reality sucks. Anyone got anything they can share to cheer me up?

We went to Newquay, Cornwall Calella. Was lovely, feels such a shame to be back to reality. Our next holiday now will not be until our honeymoon next July Smiley sad

Yeah, we decided after our honeymoon last year that we wouldn't go away this year, but it's hard! Smiley sad

Sounds lovely Daisy, hope the weather was nice for you!

My neighbour (who hates me) was telling me how she's just back from Turkey and how hot it was, wish we still had a holiday to look forward to! Australia feels so long ago already!

Our next holiday will probably be our minimoon next August then honeymoon January 2017! Smiley sad

In NZ you have to 'ear'n your holiday before you can take it, you don't just get your 4 weeks at ghe start of the year and use it up as the year goes on. Since I only started my job in January I wont have earned any leave till Jan 16.....?

Yeah, it's ust the way they do it, each payslip you get tells you how much leave you have accrued and what date it is 'valid' from. You always have a zero balance in your valid leave in the first 12 months.

my last payslip read, total accrued leave 52.5 hours, total valid leave 0 hours. Depressing

what's worse is that my leave won't be valid till january 2016, but the organisation i work for shuts down for 2 weeks over Christmas/New year. I will be given the option to borrow from my next years leave (which i don't want to do cos i want 4 weeks back in the uk next year to visit family and attend my brothers wedding) or take the 2 weeks as unpaid leave (which i don't want to do cos who wants to be unpaid at christmas when you're likely to be skint enough). It really grates me that the official shut down period basically means that i have the timing and duration of 50%of my annual leave allowance dictated to me, but it is really common here.

on the plus side, you can just keep accruing, you don't have to use it all up in a year. I have known people to 'save up' enough annual leave to be able to take 6 months off! Personally I dread to think how many years they worked solidly to achieve that tho.
