Prob some more along these lines. Neither of us are music snobs as such and we are finding it quite hard but it's the sort of thing we listen too which is quite low key and 'backgroundy' anyway. Not to everyones taste I know but in all honestly I'm not sure anyone will pay too much attention to what you have on as long as it's not too OTT - this is how I'm trying to remove the stress of this to myself anyway!

How about Vitamin String Quartet?

This is what we're going to do as it covers both classical and pop/rock.

I brought their album from Itunes, I think they actually do a wedding album too.

The way I figure it, if I do the job properly actually no one should really "notice" the music or pay attention to it so it really only matters what music I put in if it's too OTT like you say! Grr why does OH have to be going away from tomorrow until Sunday? This is way more up his street than mine!

I am LOVING London Grammar right now .. they make brilliant background music.

Probably not much help but our background music playlist is made up of 'softer' tracks by our favourite bands i.e Manics and Foo Fighters, with a few classic rock ballads thrown in (Eagles, Meatloaf etc).

Oh GOD I love easy listening and loungecore. Maybe if you want modern stuff someone like the Puppini Sisters, Mike Flowers Pops or Richard Cheese (although he can be quite rude so you need to be careful which tracks!) Or more classic stuff like Bacharach, Carpenters, Dionne Warwick, Tony Bennett, Andy Williams. Ooh and Seth Macfarlane's album is beautiful.

We have a spread sheet that we add to whenever we hear a song we like. At the same time we have hired a jukebox which will allow people to make their own choices too, so our playlist will be played unless someone chooses something they like.

Are you on spotify? We made a playlist on there- I tried to copy and paste over some of the tracks but it wont let me- we made an indie lovelong playlist on there with a few guilty pleasures.

I have now got 65 tracks on a playlist, thank you for the kick start. I will add the guest choices on and that should equal about 8 hours play time, another job done!

We have a fair mix of stuff, but you might like: Air, Goldfrapp, Arcade Fire (obviously not the really noisy ones), Sigur Ros, Metric, Bat for Lashes, Beta Band, Camera Obscura.

I can't imagine having Richard Cheese as background music as i'd probably be giggling my head off! We're definitely slotting a song or two of his in later though ?

Oh! I've heard the Vitamin String Quartet mentioned loads on here and finally thought I'd give them a listen (sneaky earbud at work and YouTube!) Love it!

We're having a Spanish Guitarist playing before our ceremony for guests arrival and after the ceremony and in to dinner .... think I might ditch him for one of those slots in favour of a bit of Vitamin String Quartet!!

Can anyone suggest how long the playlist should be? Making one is top of my 'to do' list at the mo.

lottie my wedding breakfast is 2 hours so I'm aiming for 90 mins or so and then it'll be on repeat.

We've just picked loads of our favourite artists and picked appropriate songs that are slower / acoustic etc. And thrown a few in that other people we know love who are attending.

I only have about 3 classical pieces in there which I love but other than that it's a lot more relaxed and we've gone for our favourites rather than popular
