Bad skin help?

*MM3*, 9 August, 2013 at 22:03 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 19

Wondering if anyone has any skincare tips for this dragon?
Have really awful skin, it's a mixture of dry (particularly above my nose) & oily (forehead) and I always always have spots.
I've tried loads of face washes including witch hazel, Clearasil, garnier for spots etc..spent loads of money on spots products and nothing seems to work, also tried the toothpaste ones etc ..
One i'm using just now is soap & glory hot cloth cleanser which is probably the best I've found but still each day have another spot.
If I stick with just facewashes my face dries up, but when I use moisturisers I get more spots wahhhh.
My upper back is quite bad as well, makes me paranoid to go & try dresses on and thinking of how it'll look on my wedding day too Smiley sad
Togs will need to be miracle workers to fix this coupon, i'm a step away from completely clawing my face off & hoping it begins a fresh..

Don't suppose anyone has any tips / miracles / wands?
I'll try ANYTHING

My brother has a strict routine with stuff that has particular ingredients in it. I can ask him what it is. He gets the one thing on prescription though.

Ooh that'd be great thanks! I remember getting some sort of cream off my dr but nothing that worked again unfortunately, might actually be worth me going back and asking. Thank you!

I used to suffer with bad skin and started to have regular dermalogica facials and started using the products. I was very impressed it cleared up my skin. I would recommend dermalogica

I have combination skin and have never found a moisturiser that didn't give me spots. I've tried posh, basic, sensitive, mattifying, oilifying, day creams, night creams, you name it.

Last Christmas, I stopped using any (apart from what was in makeup etc). I also stopped washing my face as much. My routine is now:

Morning: wash face with water, pat dry, apply beauty balm (which is a moisturiser/primer/light foundation type all in one cream), normal makeup application (no foundation).

Night: wash face with Simple face wash, use a cotton wool pad to apply gentle/sensitive toner to my forehead, the sides of my nose and my chin only.

My skin has definitely improved. I was never plagued with massive spots but I got a lot of greasy pimples around my nose. They are history now and I guess that's down to the toner (which I'd never used in my life before). I thoughts my cheeks would really suffer from lack of moisturiser, but I think the addition of the beauty balm to my makeup has kept that in check.

Thank you, have to say I have a terrible skin regime I tend to just wash it with face wash about 3/4 times a day and i'm probably drying it to death!
Used toner a few times and I think my face went bright red but that's probably with all the spot products I've most likely used before hand, will try this and also try just washing with water & applying beauty balm. Maybe a product as natural as possible is what I need. Definitely going to try these ideas and hopefully see an improvement.
    Thanks again Smiley smile

If you are washing your face 3/4 times a day then you have your answer (at least partly). You should only wash your face twice a day at the most.

I have very oily/spotty skin. My spots used to be under control on the pill, but now I've come off my skin's gone a bit haywire so I'm also trying to get my skin under control. At the moment this is what I'm doing:

In the morning: Wash face with Quinoderm face wash, apply Garnier mattifying moisturiser

In the evening: Use Clean and Clear deep cleansing lotion on cotton wool and apply sudocrem to any spots.

I went into dinanette about two years ago and it was fab. My skin cleared up within the month. I've come off the pill now and I can really see the diffirence in my skin.

I've got awful acne on my face/back/chest which cleared up when I was put on dianette aged 14-17. Due to the 'high risks' the dr took mme off it and my skin has been awful ever since. I even got put back on it but nothing changed. ATM I'm on another pill which is said to help skin as well as using a tea tree scrub in the morning. So far no change. I think I'm just stuck with it forever Smiley sad

I've been offered roaccutane but my dr scared me with all the side effects and said I would HAVE to have a coil or something similar fitted to avoid pregnancy, which I don't want (I just don't want something like that in my body). OH's brother is on it and he's had awfully sensitive skin and just general bad side effects from it although it has cleared his skin up nicely. Maybe I should just get some balls and try it myself!!!

I finally went to my a couple of weeks ago about my skin and he's prescribed metronidazole gel for me to use twice a day. I have to say, I'm impressed by the effect already. My skin is definitely less red and blotchy and the spots have really calmed down. My GP did say my skin problems were down to rosacea rather than straightforward acne.

Best thing to do is go to your dr. I've spent 3 years trying to find a facewash regime that would sort me out but it's always just aggravated it.

Agree with Peanut, washing your face 3/4 times a day is a mistake.

My eczema is quite well maintained really, have creams for it but still get it breaking out on my arms at the inner part of my elbow, and behind my knee's..and sometimes the bottom of my back. But not as bad as it used to be Smiley smile Although not sure what triggers mine tbh but most probably the nickel! Thanks Smiley smile

I've been on roacutane twice. Acne face, neck, chest, back. I had a second dose because I came off dianette after the first treatment (was Young & didn't need birth control) and boom so straight back on it. Very strong but works..

I came off pill in may last year to start a family (no luck yet) and about 3months later my face&neck erupted again. Got a cream from doc but really drying & irritating so don't use it.

It's horrible - I've tried everything under the sun (including dermalogica) & no joy. It's def hormonal for me - all round my mouth is just a see of lumps.

I just wear fake tan o hide the redness - BB cream for work & make up at wkend only if we are out.

I wash face&neck neck morning & night - I find bb cream & loose powder touched up during day stops my skin being so greasy.

If we fall pregnant I wouldn't hesitate to go on roacutane again after the birth etc - but I do think you are only allowed 3 courses of it within a certain time period.

Good luck in finding a treatment that works - but if you don't I highly recommend roacutane.

Thanks a lot! Will definitely give this a try, actually took notes down of recommendations from this post haha willing to try anything.
It is horrible, as usual woke up today with more spots on my chin and cheeks. Hope you find something that works or even better hope you fall pregnant soon (good luck vibes) & you can get back on the roacutane. Thanks again for the reply!

I think most people have covered what I would suggest. I totally agree with the overly washing your face, you'll end up aggravating every issue you have.

Id just like to add that Clearasil is the skin care of devils. It might dry out your spots but it'll also dry out the rest of your skin. I used to be a beauty therapist before i changed career and the amount of people I saw who used this and had terribly dry and dehydrated skin was huge. It can make some people's skin go scaley too which isn't nice!

Also, when it comes to roaccutane or oxytetracycline be very careful as they can cause other side effects. Goes without saying but make sure you use a high factor sun cream on your face (but you should anyway!!!).

Have you ever been for a facial? I'd reccomend you go for one using Dermalogica or something similar where they do face-mapping and recommend products for each issue. Then go for fairly regular facials, if you can't afford them every month-6 weeks then just go every now and then and treat yourself to one new product a month or so.

Agree with others. You're probably washing your face too much.

I use Liz Earle and would never consider anything else. It was at a time where my skin was really bad and I tried everything from Simple to expensive designer brands and nothing worked. I now don't even get the hormonal spots around my mouth that I used to get.

It used to only be available on mail order but its now available in some shops.
