Baked camembert dilemma

Twiglet girl, 8 March, 2009 at 11:09 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 7

I was planning to do baked camembert with bread as a starter tonight - just take the paper off, slice top off and add a sprig of thyme, then bake in box.

The problem is I have noticed the camemert I have bought is not in a wooden box, but cardboard. Will it set on fire in the oven? Can I microwave it instead??

Should I just go and buy some more? I am short on time so would rather not.

What do you think?

i don't know if it would catch fire. Last eweek H bought a camebert for baking... and got one just in the paper. All i did was make a little nest for it from baking parchment which actually looked quite cool and worked great

Soak the box before you put it in the oven.

Take it but of the box and wrap it loosely in foil. I did this a coupld of week ago and it turned out fine.

Excellent - you've saved me from the shops in the rain and the wind. I'm not advanced enough to have baking parchment but will either soak the box or try foil.

    Thanks everyone!

I second the foil, make a little nest and pop it in the middle, although i always make a cross on the top rather than cut the top off, might help it keep it's shape and stop it collapsing, I still put herbs in the cuts.

I've just cut the top off... Oh well, fingers crossed!

I love baked camembert. Enjoy it. Just usually make a couple of slits in the top and add some garlic and some white wine. Dip in small cooked new potatoes. Yum.

Enjoy yours later, hope it all worked successfully for you. Mine always explodes and goes horribly wrong. But still hugely moreish and tasty
