Balloons.....

jen-lou, 7 April, 2014 at 13:07 Posted on Planning 0 42

I was just wondering what your thoughts are of balloons as decorations at a wedding? I am undecided if I like the idea or not, so what do you guys think?

They are the Marmite of wedding decorations. Some ppl love them others hate them. If you love them have them if you're undecided I wouldn't. X

I suppose it depends where you put them. On evry table would be too much but maybe a little corner display would look ok? Plain ones are very popular in the USA I think.

As long as you're not having those massive letter ones, that is. I'd say that's way too much!

We are having 2 separate rooms for daytime and evening, so we will be decorating the party evening room with balloons coming out of sweet bowls in the center of each table x

I really like the huge balloons with tassels that seem popular in the US like below. But its easy for them to look tacky so i guess less is more

I am hoping to have balloons at my wedding - but large, round ones as opposed to what you might call traditional balloons. I'm hoping it will look something like this:

Our ceremony isn't outdoors, but it has very high ceilings so think it could work.

With big balloons like that, they should be able to carry led lights, you hide the battery packs in a bowl at the bottom, and the balloons will light up.

I am having balloons for my evening reception, I love them. I think if they go with your colour scheme then they will look nice, it's what you want anyway xx

Personally, I hate balloons - I hate them because people think it is hilarious to pop them. And even more hilarious to breathe in the helium. And it just makes me cringe. Helium voices and loud bangs are not original and hysterical, they are awkward and have cost someone money. This is my dislike of balloons. That, and I work with children - there is nothing worse than a kid crying over a burst balloon. Aside from a kid crying over a fly away.....

Saying that, I went to a wedding fair that had some really stunning balloon decorations.

Those massive round balloons are possibly the coolest balloons I have ever seen!

There are all my thoughts on balloons!

Personally, if I am not sure about something wedding wise, it isn't perfect enough to be my decision.

    S x

Thanks for all your thoughts guys. I wasn't saying I was undecided on whether I like them or not for my wedding, it was whether I generally like them or not. Thinking about it, I don't think I have ever been to a wedding where they had them, so i've got no "comparison" so to speak of what they are like at a wedding.

hmm...think a little pinterest snoop is in order....I may be a while... (te he he ? )

I love balloons! Really love them and because they're more affordable it's one of the best ways I can decorate cheaply and beautifully. Although this thread has made me a little wobbly over them. Hope I don't end up looking cheap. But to be honest I don't care. We like them- we're having them!!! ?

I LOVE balloons! I won't be having them at my wedding as I also love flowers, but my dad and his wife did and they looked lovely. Always have what YOU want not what other people say you should.

We might have them but just for the evening reception. I think it depends on the balloon display, sometimes they can look a bit 'cheap' but a few scattered in line with wedding colours I think looks ok.

I'm not a fan or the average balloon at a wedding but someone (I think it was Elixia?) flashed some really lovely ones in here once a bit like these: http://www.bubblegumballoons.co.uk/#!giantweddingballoons/c12by (I have spent ages looking at balloons ever since!)

Also, I think maybe last year, one bride had a lovely wedding photo done with one. I think that it definitely depends one the type of balloon you have - some look fab but others (in my opinion) can look quite naff!

I think it depends what people do with them... They could look ace or could be hugely naff.

We had a country fair type feel to our wedding and used them outdoors in the evening with LEDs. That was quite pretty, at least we thought so!

I used to work in a hotel that did a lot of weddings. Whenever we had a wedding with balloons in was never as classy as the ones with out (sorry to anyone who likes balloons) there seemed to be a 'type' of couple who had balloons

    CONFETTI BALLOONS!

    Yes i am a child.

I like them, i was tempted to have them in my ceremony room but i knew OH would have a fit and plus with the pom pom and *surprise* flower arrangements (and the giant black vases) it would of been too much.

    I don't mind them.

We had balloons at either side of the bar, and by the cake table.

But, we did have our reception in a village hall. I don't think I'd have had them if we'd been in a hotel/somewhere else other than a hall.
