Band or Dj? 50 guest wedding

Kmc, 20 February, 2022 at 09:57 Posted on Planning 0 6
We’re having a pretty small wedding with only around 50 guests and not sure if a band or DJ would be best? Don’t know if the crowd is too small to have a live band and it might be a bit awkward? Any advice?
Thanks

Either will work, is down to what you want and budget as bands are not cheap.

We had around 70 people at our wedding and we had a live band. The band cost us £1000 for six hours in 2019 but they were excellent. They checked if there were any songs we didn’t want played and read the room well.

It depends on your budget though and a good DJ should equally be able to read the room. Depending on where you are having your reception some places have a DJ they use and may be able to recommend.

We are having a similar number and I've had the same worries (still do!). We decided to book a band though! Just thought why not and I'm sure those there will be up for a good time regardless of size etc. It's also nice to sit and watch a band play for any older guests.

Hiii, I too are having a small wedding maybe 50 people and would like a band. Live music is amazing and I think (or hope) people will really enjoy it. Still haven’t booked one yet tho - im finding that a bit difficult as it’s in the Highlands- not far from Inverness.

I would opt for either of them.
We are only having 50 guests at our wedding and we have booked a DJ 7-midnight. We did look at a band but it was to far out of our price range as we have gone over our budget already.

We've gone for a DJ - 7:30pm till midnight. It was included in our venue package, but we had the option to swap to a band if we wanted to fork out the extra.

While I utterly love live music, I think for 50 people a DJ works well. The vibe can change so quickly as it only takes a few people to start or stop dancing when you've got a small group already. The benefit of a DJ is that they can switch up their songs far easier than a band who tend to stick to a set list order. A DJ can read the room and switch to some slow background songs if it seems people have migrated to sitting and chatting for a bit, or keep the high energy songs going if the floor is full and hyped up!
