jaz, 17 August, 2008 at 15:28 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 13

Does anyone have a tried and te/asted recipe they'd care to share? I need one that's nice but dead straight forward (remember my confusion with evaporated/condensed milk?).

Thanks muchly

    Easy peasy lemon squeasy!

You can also cheat and swap the caramel stage for Nestle Caramel which you'll find right next to condensed milk. ?

I cheat wildly when making ('making' may be going a bit far actually!) banoffee - I buy a pastry case, slice 2 ripe bananas, cover it with ready-caramelised condensed milk, then cover that with extra thick double cream and sprinkle crumbled up flake over the top. It still tastes fab though.

Did you know that's exactly what you get in the Nestle tin?

    "CARNATION CARAMEL…golden and delicious…
Carnation Caramel is a ready-made authentic Dulce de Leche caramel that is easy to use in baking and as a topping. It’s an ideal filling for a quick and easy Banoffee Pie, without the fuss of boiling a can of condensed milk.

Carnation Caramel is also available in a handy bottle, perfect for squeezing over your favourite treats. Why not drizzle it over ice cream, fresh fruit, pancakes or use as a milkshake ingredient. If you fancy something truly indulgent, squeeze it into the middle of chocolate muffins before baking for a deliciously indulgent surprise centre.

    Available in a 397g tin and 425g bottle, it’s a must-have for all pudding-lovers!"

I'm just really surprised it's the same stuff, I bet lots of Nestle boycotters would be interested to know about it. ? I love caramel. ?

Indeed... ? I only found out about the Merchant Gourmet one as I used to work with an Argentinian girl who made a banoffee pie with it and got me sucked in by it, before that I hated banoffee pie

    It is very yum!

Whenever I refill our biscuit tin (often!) I pour the crumbs into an airtight bottle and save them. When we have enough we make banoffee pie, using a tin of ready made caramel. I buy a no-name brand version at my local supermarket, but I always wonder if it is actually Nestle? ️?️

I didn't realise you could get dulce de leche from anyone but Nestle, so that is valuable information.

Yum, thank you all, especially Mrs M for the photos in case I get confused again, I might print them off and take them to the supermarket with me ?

I've never had banoffee with cream on the top - just caramel - am I weird? I assume I can just do base, layer bananas and then top with caramel?

I've really never seen it with cream other than on the side ?

I don't really like cream so often ask for things without. One time we were out for a meal and I asked the girl if I could have the banoffee with no cream and she asked if I just wanted bananas then ?
