barefoot brides (one for the hippies and earth mammas out there!!)

crazyferretlady, 8 October, 2010 at 11:18 Posted on Planning 0 12

Hello Hitchers. We are planning to get married some time next year, probably in the early autumn. I've always loved the idea of having a bit of a back to nature kinda ceremony, and really want to reflect that in my dress, my footwear (or lack of) and the colours. I've got rich browns, oranges and reds in my head at the moment, and these colours really suit my colouring as well. Has anyone else done anything like this? Or can you point me in the right direction for some ideas?

Thanks in advance Smiley smile

    Indoor or outdoor ceremony?

Indoor - church, cold stone floors.

    Outdoor - soft squishy ground.

Neither of which may make it memorable for the right reasons...

I love the barefoot / back to basics idea - but i'd only do it if I got married abroad on a nice soft sandy beach...

I like this pic, even though the bride / groom are wearing shoes:

In the UK I just don't trust there to not be stone / twigs and all sorts of other nastiest around to cut or hurt my poor feet!

I really love the idea of going barefoot.

I always am, assuming that its warm enough.

Probably an indoor ceremony, not a church though as neither of us are religious. I'd be quite happy wearing flat shoes, especially as my H2B is only a little bit taller than me and I don't want to tower over him on our wedding day. It's going to be in the UK - either England (where we live) or Wales (where I was born).

I just want more of a bohemian feel to things. All the wedding dresses I have looked at are very formal and very beautiful, and just not me in the slightest. :/ Who knows - maybe I'll fall in love with something completely different this weekend at the NEC!

If you are going for indoor, have you considered "barefoot sandals"?

http://www.beadelicious.co.uk/links/108.htm some links to make your own although I've seen plenty on Ebay too.

We're sort of doing the barefoot thing, but not in this country. When I started looking around, I fell in love with this Jenny Packham dress

I loved all of her dresses really, but this one is my absolute fave. I chose something different in the end as I couldn't find anywhere close enough to try it on.

I'm also having a pair of these barefoot sandals for my wedding, but I'm not sure how practical they'd be in this country!

Perhaps the best place for inspiration is to try thinking along the lines of a relaxed beach wedding and then 'warming' things up from there. Flowers in your hair rather than a tiara/ veil and leaving your hair down and slightly tousled (sp?) would look stunning, and is perhaps more along your lines.

Love the mix of colours you are thinking about,, I have seen this scheme and the deep purple colour included (like japanese maple leaves). Should be gorgeous. I love the idea of a bohemian style wedding,, good for you for doing something that is more your personality rather than traditional. I shot a wedding in the US back in June that had an outdoors ceremony with a barefoot bride and bridesmaids,, it was amazing! The dresses were pretty formal but it still worked. You can have a peek on my facebook page that is linked to my blog, it's Mandi and Brandon.

Another autumn wedding that I have seen from last year, https://www.stylemepretty.com/2009/10/21/jessica-claire-wedding-by-jose-villa-iv/ I love how Jessica had her friends pick out their own dresses, so long as they were in the autumnal colours. Another outdoors ceremony. I do wish we could do outdoor ceremonies over here.

Best of luck, it should be a fabulous expirence for you Smiley smile

    Hello.

I tried to post a message earlier - but it has been deleted. I'll try again as I had an out door / back to nature wedding.

We got married in a meadow, and all the guests were transported there on tractors with trailors decorated with bows. The guests sat on hay bails - and we got some morrissmen to ebtertain them. After the ceremony, we had a hog roast - and then a DL with a bongo player - the whole wedidng was themed around the countryside. It was great fun to organise. The venue was in Essex at the room in the rodings and meadow pavillion.

Good luck with all the planning!
