Beach/outdoor brides... what are you wearing?!

Anonbride, 18 January, 2022 at 11:13 Posted on Wedding Attire 0 9

Hi again you lovely lot! I'm thinking of booking in my dress shopping appointment quite soon, as I have a couple of dresses that I'm quite attached to style wise... however, my mum just made the point that if my dress has a train, it might get really mucky walking down the sandy aisle!

Anyone else getting/got married on the beach or outside - what are you going for in a dress? Train or no train? Is it really going to impact my choice of dress that much?

Getting married outside and have a train. I'm planning on selling my dress after the wedding so a bit worried about it but honestly I've come to terms with the fact that if it gets mucky, it gets mucky. I think you should just go for the dress you want and if the train gets a bit dirty so be it! It won't show in the photos and I've decided I'm more worried about someone spilling red wine on me than a bit of soil on the bottom of a train.

Thanks Stephanie - this is really good to hear! I see so many beautiful photos of brides outside with train, but had a panic that no one did this in reality. I suppose a mucky train shows the signs of a fun day as well!

Maybe cap the bar at white or rose wine only haha!

Yeah - the turning point for me was the lady in the dress shop looking at me slightly incredulously and being like "it's a train, it's on the floor, it's not going to stay perfectly clean even if you're indoors". I think it's just taking a step back from the everything needs to be perfect mentality!

Agree. One of my friends ended up with massive boot marks all over her train from people treading on it. It's likely to get mucky whatever you do, unless you don't eat or drink anything, don't walk around much and keep everyone at arms' length!

That's a very good point... no matter what it's on some form of floor and floors are mucky! I guess even if you have no train the dress is still long so the edges of it will get mucky anyway!

Not my dress as I’m having a tea length style!
But yes most weddings I’ve been to the train has been pretty grubby by the end of the day. Im sure it can be professionally cleaned afterwards if it bothers you that much and if you are planning to sell it on.

I’m having an outdoor ceremony by the sea next spring, so I completely understand the worry about sandy aisles and delicate fabrics. I ended up choosing a lightweight boho-style gown with a small detachable train, it gives that dreamy flow for photos but can be lifted off when moving around. It’s such a relief not having to stress about dragging half the beach behind me!

A lot of designers are creating elegant options for outdoor and coastal weddings that still look timeless without being impractical. If you’re looking for inspiration, visit here , LEYLA MAYA has some stunning bridal collections that balance elegance with comfort, especially for breezy, open-air settings.

Honestly, a little bit of sand or sea breeze just adds to the story. Go for what makes you feel beautiful and free, because that’s what you’ll remember most from the day.
