Beauty counter make up

Clohugs, 11 August, 2008 at 14:18 Posted on Planning 0 14

Hi

Has anyone had their make up done by a beauty counter before? I'm looking to get my makeup done on Thurs during the day as I'm getting a few pics taken. I'm thinking about MAC or somewhere else in a house of frasers - anyone know if you are able to prebook or is it just pot luck & also how much they charge? If anyone else has any suggestions of who I could get to do it let me know? I can't afford to pay my MUA prices of £45 unfortuately.

I booked a No. 7 one at Boots before I was my sister's BM and also was looking at a Benefit display a few months back and got offered one which made me buy some products which I love but hadn't realised how expensive they were!

Not sure about Mac but I did book the Boots one via ringing the branch and getting put through to the counter. I don't think they usually charge but if they do it would be redeemable against purchases hopefully!

Thanks - I hadn't thought of No7. I'll look into them as well.

    Hi,

My friend one at MAC and I think they charged a small amount but it was offset against the price of the make up. As she didn't book, they only did half of the face- well the foundation, concealer and blusher. Apparently if she'd booked they would have matched the eye shadow and lip colour as well.

I've pre-booked with Bobbi Brown in Selfridges by popping into the counter but I think you can phone too.

Great - I'll try & phone & see if they can fit me in. I'm not sure if we have a Bobbi Brown in the local Frasers - I'll have to check... I use relatively cheap make up so I don't really know much about these posh brands - hee.

I wandered into House of Fraser one day and decided to bit the bullet and sort myself out with some make-up. After hearing good things about MAC I went to the desk and said I was looking to get some make-up so the lady did a complete makeover on me and I ended up buying most of what she recommended (I'm a sucker for a sales pitch). I love the products, they're really good and she did a good job of making me look like a better version of myself IYSWIM.

I asked when I was in there about bridal makeup and I think she said it was about £15 although I may be wrong and it needed to be prebooked. You could always try ringing them?

I went to make up counter the other day to ask for advice (boots trafford centre) she said if its a sat book but during the week would be ok to just turn up .

They said they do one half of your face and help you do the otherside , they will do a couple of different looks until your happy and they do not charge .

kelly x P.S That was for bridal make up.

My MUA used MAC and it covered my spots up so well. I have a scar from a just healed spot in between my eyes and you can't see it plus a spot on my chin - I was really impressed with how MAC foundation transformed my skin. However, I'm sure if I do it myself I'll be rubbish

Thanks Penguin. Mac might be the way to go as I've heard that they are the only ones who are proper MUAs... not sure if this is true or not though!

Frasers on Buchannan St have a Bobbi Brown counter. The MAC counter definitely does a makeover service, don't forget they have Stila, Aveda and Yves St Laurent in there too.

The Benefit counter in Boots, St.Enoch Centre have a good make-over service too.

My personal choice would be a session in Space NK, Princes Square.

What are the chances BWC - I just got off the phone to Space NK... They can fit me in on Thurs & it's free which is a bonus but I'll prob buy a lipstick or something anyway! Glad someone rates it as I've only been in once so couldn't remember what they sold.

Woo - hopefully I'll look slightly less spotty now!

Thanks to everyone else too for all of your suggestions. Most places were fully booked as I've left it a bit late. I'll let you know how it goes.

I'm not jealous, nooooo, not at all.

I love Nars and used two of their products on my wedding day. The whole shop is well laid out and relaxing. Hope you have a fab time and manage not to stop into Karen Millen Shoes on the way out.

Yay! I'm quite excited actually! Thankfully I won't be able to go into any of the shops as I'm getting my hair done at 12! Eek - busy busy!
