When I was 18 it was 1993. I wore DMs with everything, stripy tights and horrid hippy style skirts. Grunge was in. We listened to Carter USM, the Wonderstuff and Neds. We didn't have mobiles. Next was seen as the pinacle of style and expense. We used to drink snakebite. Make me feel old and tell me...

Make me feel old and tell me about when you were 18.

A few weeks ago some of the youngsters in our office were saying how cool a track on the radio sounded and I am sure the backing track to it was the rising piano loops from babyD, let me be your fantasy ?

I was 18 in 1984. I don't feel old at all, and think everyone younger than me should 'get real' (does anyone still say that? ?). I was at Teesside Poly as it was then, studying 'Finally Losing My Virginity Now I'm Out of That Goddamed Village, with Getting Pissed and Spending All My Grant In The First Month'. The miners strike was on, I was militant and proud, paid into the Miners Fund buckets weekly, on my way to Fine Fare to buy dreadful food, mostly pot noodles. I was drunk 6 nights out of 7, spent a vast amount of time playing pin ball and pac-man and cried when I had to go home at Christmas. I loved it. Music wise I think I remember dancing to The Clash, but I don't really recall....

Waaaahhhh, we used to go to Equinox a lot back then. If we missed the last train back which left at a ridiculous 12.30 or soemthing, we would pile down to Equinox as that was always the latest opening club. It was always full of foreigners if I remember correctly.

God that place was crap but the early train wasn't until 6 or something and a girl has to do something.

1990 - I had my first girlfriend, and we'd been living together for most of the summer. I'd just got back from working on a dig in Israel and living on kibutz. I had a killer tan, hair down to the bottom of my shoulders and a mighty beard*. Mostly I kicked about in jeans and black suede "goth boots", while wearing too much black eye-liner. Music tastes ran from Bauhaus and Siouxie to the Wonderstuff and Pixies. A few weeks later I started medical school - my dad made me wear a suit - nobody spoke to me for a week

*OK, it was actually a bit straggly and crap, but I was only 18

I was 18 in 1992 and couldn't decide if I wanted to be a grunger or a raver so did a bit of both. We mostly wore DM's, cut off Levi's and thick black tights, listened to Nirvana, The Stone Roses, PWEI, The Pixies etc. Lived in Reading and hung out at the original Purple Turtle, the Hawaiian Wine Bar and the indie nights at Washington Heights and Gatsby's.

Then when we could afford it we went to those commercial raves you used to get, like Yikes and Swing, and sometimes to ClubUK. Wore hotpants, stripey hoodies, tights and trainers. We took speed and sometimes split a pill between about four of us because they were £20 a pop then. ?

This is the first time I've posted in the new forum so forgive me if I get it horribly wrong.

I was 18 in May 1991. I used to wear monkey boots (couldn't afford proper DMs!) thick tights, short skirts and a duffel coat. And a hat, always a hat. I had fabulous legs that people were jealous of, I'm told, and I thought I was fat at size 10/12. I danced to Carter, Airhead, James etc and refused to be parted from my beloved Depeche Mode and OMD tapes. I think in the clubs we danced to all sorts of dance stuff and I am proud to have seen 2Unlimited 'live' (ahem) in the Pyramids in portsmouth. We drank Blastaway (Castaway and diamond white) and snakebite and black or scrumpy jack all at a £ a pint in the union. Lived on veggiepizzachipsandbeans and knew how to feed myself for a fiver a week in the supermarket. Had lots of sex with lots of random people and fell in love with a Scotsman called Guy who didn't know I existed until the graduation ball.

I loved being 18 - it was fabulous and I want to go back there (if only for the great legs)

HH i can't believe someone else used to go to Tots at Southend! I remeber those nights. We'd cruise over in our mark II fiestas and race the Essex Boys. Then into Tots for a boogie.

Sparks, I loved Camden Palais. I went to Moondance last year actually, that was awesome and brought back so many memories. Although no e's this time around.

Equinox, Gas Club and Colloseum at Vauxhall were regular haunts of mine.

    When i was 18 is was 2003

Not a lot has changed really.

The thing that makes me feel old though is looking at footballers who are much younger than me but me thinking that they're older than me.

    I still feel as though i'm 18

KB, I'd think you were one of my old mates only for the fact you'd have been 11 ?

Did anyone ever go to Gin Palace or Caesers on The Old Kent Road?
    Or Langtry's in Beckenham?
    Dorringtons in Greenwich?
    Venue at New Cross?

I definitely went to Caesers, we also used to go to Cairo Jacks (maybe a bit older than 18) just off Regent Street.

Our usual haunt though was Ritzy's or Rudolph's in Tottenham, hardcore man ?

It was 1998, we were finishing our A levels and spent the rest of the time drinking / clubbing (gatecrasher anyone?) / taking drugs / chasing older 'men' (i use the term loosely, there was a group about 3 years older than we were who we paired up with and we thought we were sooooo cool ?)

we wore: short skirts, 'FMBs' ?, too much mascara. money was spent in topshop or on vodka. i was the chubbiest i have EVER been at 18, in fact it was a photo from my 18th birthday that spawned the next 10 years of undereating ?

i'm so glad i'm not 18 now. in fact, i can't bloody wait to be 30, the 20s are overrated i reckon.

I was 18 in 1988, was studying maths, physics & chemistry. I was lead guitarist in a band and was very moody and aggressive. Probably because girls just didnt look my way.

I drank Carlsberg as it was cheap (prolly £1.07 a pint) and didnt really own any nice clothes. I was listening to Clapton, Gary Moore and Deep Purple.

I had no idea what I wanted to be.

I used to go to the Venue when I was at uni in London, loved it. Also the WAG Club on Wardour St, I was gutted when that closed. And we still go to The Borderline sometimes.

I was 18 in 1998. I was in the 6th form, with a great group of friends. We used to go out on Saturday night in Nottingham and for some reason we used to pretend we were at Trent University sometimes, probably to make us look older to blokes. To school I used to wear long baggy jumpers and either long wrap-around skirts (that I had to hold down when it was windy so I didn't give people an eyefull) or skirts that were shorter than the jumper. When I went out I remember I used to wear a black chinese style dress with splits up the sides, which was way too short and tight for my fat bum and showed my knickers when I sat down - I remember my mate's boyfriend getting embarassed and telling me to cover myself up! One of my friends and I used to always drink dry martini and lemonade as we thought it made us look dead sophisticated - by the end of the year when we went to uni I was on to Smirnoff Ice...

(Sounds like great teenage years, drinking and flashing knickers...)

    oh no I didn't know this ?

My mates and I were fairly unadventurous, we went to a club in Kingston called Volts and a few places in central London that I can't remember the names of ?

I just remembered at 20 I had a boyfriend that was a post man by day and in a punk band by night, he took me to a heavy metal club in London called the Hellfire. I've never seem so much hair in my life ?

I turned 18 at the end of 1998. I had a joint birthday party with my friend Sarah - we hired out a random nightclub in the middle of nowhere and had a black-tie ball.

I wasn't a very happy 18 year old. I'd gained a lot of weight quite quickly and always felt like the 'ugly' one next to my friends. I went out loads when I was 16/17, but hit a crisis of confidence at 18, so didn't go out much other than being a barmaid at my local.

Then I went to uni, got glandular fever, lost 3 stone in 3 months [romyandmichelle]mono was like the best diet ever[/romyandmichelle] and remained a size 8 until I was 24 - hurrah!

I feel sorry for my 18 year old self - I think I gave myself a really hard time. 23 was a good age for me - I was super skinny (didn't appreciate that at the time though), had loads of boys after me and went out and got drunk an awful lot.
