Of course I find it fine - traditional way of addressing a letter so little cause for offence IMO

Yep I'm fine with it although when booking stuff I tend to use Dr & Mrs as on a few occassions we've had an upgrade ?

Ooh, Mrs Jess, I think you and I are "couple initial twinnies" ? ?.

No, I don't mind, to address a married couple as anything else is clumsy and unplrasing to the eye imho.

We addressed all our invites this way.

No-one complained - or at least if they did it wasn't to us or my parents ?

I always used to get annoyed when H was referred to as "Mr" because he was a Dr. Thing is, now he's a Professor - well Professor and Mrs Banana Hammock just sounds wrong doesn't it? Are people referred to as Prof in the real world? [scratches head] The situation has arisen yet.

Waaaaaah you thicky ? what did you think it meant?

CBH, yes, of course. My parents are Professor and Mrs., that's his title.
    id="quote">
Does your Dad use that title on all his correspondence then? I mean, like with the bank? H hasn't changed his title as far as I know but I'm not sure why.

Ackcherloi looks like a sort of Chinese vegetable when you write it down! ?

I thought ackcherloi was some kind of fish and wondered why people kept mentioning it randomly.

id="quote">*Everyone* calls us Dr and Dr LibrarianGirl with no initial, apart from the MIL who insists on Dr and Mrs Hisinitial LibrarianGirl. Which I suppose is correct, I'm Dr Myinitial LibrarianGirl, but why not just put Dr and Dr with no initials? He's not actually a doc (just an MRCGP), I've got a PhD so am! [V]

Can you tell this really pisses me off? ?

I've lost count of how many times I've had to tell my mother that when I got married I took just his surname and not his firstname too. I even made a point of sending all of the invitations to mr x & mrs y surname but it still hasn't got through to her.

Blimey, no wonder that pisses you off.

It's a bit of an aside, but my maiden name was my H's first name - this caused my old school grandmothers no end of trouble when trying to send us Christmas cards, we used to get all kinds of variations!

I haven't changed my name so it doesn't really affect me but it did annoy me when we got a wedding card addressed that way. I know it's considered "proper" but I don't know anyone who likes it.

Indeed - most married couples that I know share a surname but I don't think many of them would be overly pleased to receive an address in this way (I don't think to the point of mentioning it though). There are exceptions though, my mum loves that sort of stuff.

    SA. ?

What do you do if the lady is a Dr and not the man? Mr and Dr [his initial] bingy? That does sound weird.

    *not that I am a Dr......yet!

I can't abide Sir or Madam either; I can't think how its become acceptable to address something to someone or someone else.

Sirs is very soothing in a radio 4 times letter page kind of way

Ugh - hate it, don't care if it's 'proper' or not.
Mr & Mrs MarineGirl is fine at a push, though it often makes me think what's wrong with Mrs & Mr. But I would hate it to be called Mrs (his initial) MarineGirl.
Don't see what's wrong with Mr A and Mrs B MarineGirl.
Actually, I never call myself Mrs anyway - am still Miss. I'll get used to the married thing eventually ?

I haven't taken my h0s nameon any of my official documents or changed it for banks bla bla but I really don't mind being addressed either mrs his surname or mr and mrs his name and surname. I know who I am .

TBh I don't know many people who would mind. Thosewho do , well, maybe they are little paranoid.

id="quote">? Perhaps I should start tuning in.

I just like being correct when writing letters - I like the traditionalism of it, and I also think it gives what you are sending more gravitas if that makes sense (and you can't go wrong being correct, but you can trying to be right)

I'll tell you what i find even WORSE!!

I was going to get a card to Mr Smith's account, and I provided my passport, which is still in my maiden name, which is fine. Then gave them our marriage certificate. It's in Swedish. I translated it for them, word for word, which was fine. BUT because the marriage certificate didn't say EXACTLY Miss <my maiden name> is from now on Mrs Smith, I had to get the card in my maiden name. I thought, ah well, whatever..

The card turned up. Mrs S <my maiden name>! Score!?

On our wedding day I made sure we weren't introduced as Mr and Mrs (husbands name) Surname. It was strange enough to have a new surname without losing my first name as well! To be honest though I don't notice on letters so I don't think it really matters on invitations.
