Belly buttons on show...

Bookish, 7 July, 2013 at 11:41 Posted on Planning 0 22

The 'Are you influenced by celebrity weddings?' poll got me thinking. I wasn't sure if I was or not. I don't really read celeb mags but I wondered how much of their influence had been filtered down to me through designers etc.

I googled celebrity weddings and found this. It's a Lady somebody or other marrying somebody from the Big Pink (a band).

Now, I don't consider myself to be a prude and my own dress is not exactly 'traditional'. Each to their own and all that. But this...is it just me who thinks belly buttons shouldn't be on show on your wedding day?

I'm usually the first to stand up and shout 'each to their own' but, as much as its her choice to wear that dress, I find it extremely tacky.

Regardless of whether or not it's a wedding dress, I would never ever wear something that revealing in a church! I don't think the priest would let me in the door.

I'm very much "each to their own" and do love wedding dresses that can show off a bit of skin although still look classy. But that dress is just awful.

And I feel like it's been worn not because she loves the dress, and it's the one, but more as some sort of statement/for attention.

I'm not adverse to a belly button showing, but the dress isn't to my personal tastes.

I think this one is a little more classy ?

Unless you are wearing sari, I don't think belly buttons should be on show. Each to their own though, as these photos clearly shows!!!

Oh my god, I want to look away but I just keep looking back. Hideous. One question. WHY?!

I agree with this. I all for making a statement, but just make sure it's a positive one!

That dress is truly grim! It's so bad that I didn't notice that her H was carrying a bouquet. What's that all about?!

The bouquet would block her "beautiful" outfit lol

Freakish - looks like the dress a circus performer would wear for a tightrope act.

Amazed she was allowed to wear this in church or that she would want to! I think it shows a lack of respect for the place she is being married in personally. I dont think there is any need to be covered up from head to toe for a church wedding, but I do think that you should have a little bit of decency!

However, I am having my flowers at the church exactly like that with very similar urns!

I'm a bit old fashioned and feel brides should look a bit more virginal ?

I agree, I think that's one of my main issues.

I'm quite sure I'd pass as a virgin bride if I didn't have the children following me around shouting "muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuum" and giving the game away.

I'd feel like such a tart if I dressed like that on my wedding day. It doesn't leave much to the imagination & I'd feel so uncomfortable.

There is no way I'd get my bazookas out like some of those ladies did!!

Some of those pics are unreal lol ?

I'm all for your own style and things but that's too far, no class whatsoever.
Picturing my OH's face if I walked down the aisle with one of these dresses on lol!

I would genuinely love to understand the thinking that went into this. Was it originally a shower curtain?

Actually this would be the perfect eating-outfit for me on takeaway nights - my stomach could just expand through the hole, and it would be completely wipe clean. How versatile!

? Now if it had a built in bra as well it might just be perfect!

That first dress has to be the worst I've seen - not because of the belly button but because it is simply completely naff. I love the fact that brides wear dresses that I love and dresses that are just not me - it's what makes a wedding so special. But there is definitely a line somewhere and I think she just crossed it!
