Berkshire Bride - Bar in different room to dancefloor - two separate parties??

blueypye, 13 January, 2013 at 20:45 Posted on Planning 0 6

Hi all,

First post here, but looking for some general advice. We are getting married in Spring/Summer 2014 and are just looking for venues in and around the Berkshire area. Me and my other half are quite certain that we want the evening reception all in one place, i.e. the bar in the same room as the dancefloor, because weddings that we have attended before seem to have two different parties going on. It seems that all the men congregate around the bar area, and the women are on the dancefloor in the half-empty room!

We've been looking at a number of venues, however, and the majority of them seem to have these two different rooms, which leads me to think that it isn't a deal-breaker for many of you.

I'd be grateful for your thoughts on this.

I felt the same as you. It put me off Nonsuch Mansion in Cheam. Also, the dance floor was away from the main reception room, and I knew lots of people, like my Nana, would to eb able to sit down and watch everyone dance.

Hi! Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your upcoming wedding. What sort of budget are you reserving for venue/catering and how many guests to attend? This information can help us direct you in the right way. =)

Which venues have you already looked at?

My best friend got married at Trunkwell House in Reading and that was all in one room (it's a permanent marquee). There's a little side room for the evening buffet and for anyone who wants somewhere quiet to sit (ie children or older people) but its not got a bar in it so people were only in there when the food was served late on.

Thank you for your ideas so far. We have looked at the Great House in Sonning, Highfield Park, Cantley House Hotel, and Ufton Court so far. Ufton has definitley been our favourite so far, but we are still looking so any thoughts gratefully recieved!

It was a deal-breaker for us. We didn't entertain the thought of venues that had entirely separate spaces. Our venue had a dance-floor and bar in the same room, then a very open arch to the seating area/buffet served/cake/wish tree/etc. However, that makes it sound much more separate than it actually was - we had 60 people and they filled the space, so that should tell you how close we all were!

Here is a pic of our dance area/bar. It was tiny (also amusing that, in the background, BIL is pinching SIL's bottom):

PS. That was a mocked photo early on the evening! The party was a lot more rocking!

Oh wow it's THE dress, I still covet it FTLOMB!

Yeah it's a deal breaker for us too. We actually have the otherwise ideal venue literally around the corner from us, reasonalbe price and ideal size but because the bar and function room are seperate we're back to square one, we don't want our guests split and besides I'm both a drinker and a dancer as are most of our friends, we'd be backwards and forwards all night and not in a good way!!

We were trying to avoid exactly the same thing!

    Try:

The Barn at the Crown inn Pishill (Just outside Henley) Max 80 guests

    Badgemore Park Golf Club

Sonning Golf Club (Bar is in a different room, but it isn't massive and flows really well)

Stay clear of The Elephant in Pangbourne bar is in another room, AND is open to the public!

    xx
