Best month July or August?

MellieMoo, 4 of November of 2014 at 22:06 Posted on Planning 0 7

Having a minor meltdown as thought we had everything sorted but the photographer we really want can't do the date we had planned argh! We picjed it specifically because it's proven to be the driest, warmest day of July over the last few years, which is important for an outdoor wedding! The only other weekend of July we could do is the first, but it's very close to another event we go to every year, and i'm reluctant to have anything on the week before or after my big day as we'll have SO much to do! The first and last weekends of august again we go to annual events, which reeally leaves us the middle of the month. Having looked at the weather over the last few years it's a bit cooler than July, and also more chance of rain. It's also my birthday on the 17th and I feel kind of weird mixing the two.

So would you go with July or August? :-/

I'm a July bride so iam biased but the reason we choose July 4th was so OH won't forget the date with it being American indipendence lol. But on a serious note we have lots of children in the family so wanted to make sure no one was away so booked before the school holidays. This also meant our honeymoon was cheaper as its not peak season like August. I think the weather is so changeable that the difference in July and August is minimal. This yearly July 4th was dry and that's all is im worried about as we're having a marquee reception. Good luck in what u decide xx

How important are all the annual events? Could you miss one of them for the year of the wedding?

If your birthday is a milestone it could be a nice touch to mix it with the wedding.

Also as much as the weather is important for an outdoor wedding, unfortunately you cant really predict it, and its probably best to have a wet weather back up plan, ie extra umbrellas, spare gazebos.

We had our engagement bbq middle of july this year. Originally it was looking like it would be a nice day (high 20s etc), and then all the big storms came (with widespread thunder/lighting) and the days before it were so wet & a lot cooler, there was localised flooding etc. Yet on the day it was baking hot, 30 degrees sun. It then continued to rain for days after. It shows you never can tell, damn British weather!!

Thanks mrs b. I do love the idea of a July wedding. We initially were going to go for the 4th as well Smiley smile We have over a year and a half so not too worried about people not being around as we've told all the important people that we really want to be there the approx dates. We'll also send save the dates a year in advance. Hopefully that'll cover it. You're right about the difference being minimal but i can't help panicking lol, there should be some sort of calculator to predict future weather!!

We're doing a diy afternoon tea so there'll be a ton of food that needs preparing and transporting the week before, also transporting all our decor and setting everything up. Both my parents and my sister will all be arriving from abroad approx a week before and it'll be the only chance I'll have to have a hen do with them there so that's got to be fitted in as well! Grr the 9th was so perfect lol!

If there's one thing I have learned in my time as a wedding photographer it's that you can't predict the weather! July was terrible a couple of years ago.

As others have said, you can't predict the weather. Don't want you pinning all your hopes on a warm, July day only for it to pee down. Whatever you decide, make sure you have contingencies.
