Best thing for a cough

allthatglitters, 13 August, 2008 at 14:26 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 7

Right, Im fed up of it now.

Ive gone through a bottle of tickly cough medicing, a bottle of dry and a bottle of chesty. Also a weeks worth of antibiotics and i still can't stop coughing - it doesn't seem to be getting any better. I called the docs and the told me to finish the course of tablets which I have done, I'm guessing asking for a different antibiotic is the way forward?

It varies between dry/chesty and is constantly tickly and Ive had it for going on 3 weeks now..?

Probably viral thats why the antibiotics aren't making a difference. You may just have to ride it out with some linctus.

Mine has taken 3 weeks to go.

Fresh ginger root sliced into hot water with honey is very effective as it's a natural anti-viral.

My H had a cough for over 2 months that nothing would cure - he wouldn't try the ginger as he hates the taste but eventually he did and the cough was gone in 3 days!

MrNeo had a serious chest infection last year. It took him more than 2 months to get rid of his cough completely.

My mum's chemist has a cough syrup, own recipe thingy and only available on prescription, which worked brilliant for me. But that is obviously completely useful for you. sorry

I find that the cough is always a bugger to get rid of, they really linger.

Hot honey and lemon drinks are very good (and a drop of Brandy never hurts) and a spoonful of honey before bed. My H also swears by lots of garlic, seaweed in miso soup and Bancha Tea.

When it's chesty are you coughing anything up? If you are then I "think"they advise that you avoid dry cough mixture as it's good to cough it up. I also think that chesty cough mixture actually makes you cough?

I'm no medic but I think if you still have gunk coming up you should embrace the inner cough and stick to natural stuff to ease it so as not to suppress it.
