Birds nest in sky dish - what to do?

KTc, 30 July, 2008 at 20:10 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 2

I've been wondering why we're getting an intermittent satellite TV signal. We've a doves nest in our sky dish, well, just behind it. I've tried googling and going on RSPB site but can't find any info. Are there any bird specialists out there that can advise me what to do.

Mr KTc says "just knock it down", but I can't do that if there are baby birds in it.

Anyone had this before?

We had pigeons nesting at the back of ours a couple of years ago. We left the nest there until the chicks had left (we didn't find it until the eggs were laid). The pigeons did manage to knock the dish out of alignment, so we ended up with a rubbish signal for ages. Once the chicks had left we took the nest down, and keep an eye on it every year to try to make sure they don't come back (so far, so good).

Cheers Zebedee. I can't hear any chick noises, but will keep checking. When would they be active if they were hatched? Bloody hell, what a nuisance. I can't even find out what time of year they lay eggs etc. I assumed it would be spring, not summer.

I'm almost certain there are legal issues about moving a bird's nest (seem to remember one of those RSPCA programmes where a bird had nested in a car engine!) in that they can be moved but only by specialists and only if necessary for their safety. Will see if I can find anything on Google

    Not sure if this helps
