Birmingham Jewellery Quarter or Hatton Gardens?

Helen, 24 April, 2022 at 22:12 Posted on Planning 1 3
Hello, recently engaged here, and my £6 ring from Sainsbury’s is starting to tarnish!! I think I would like an emerald cut ring with diamond around the band. I haven’t even seen one to try on in the shops, but also want to not have a ridiculously priced ring - OH says £3k, I’m thinking £1k absolute max.
Is it worth a trip to either place? Is London more expensive? (I’m in Surrey, so it’s easier, but…). Does anyone have any particular recommendations or places to steer clear of?
Thank you!!

I went to Birmingham Jewellery Quarter last year and wasn’t that impressed if I’m honest. In the end, my ring came from Laings jewellers in Edinburgh and actually worked out a similar price to what they’d quoted for the same thing in Birmingham anyway!

However my sister in laws engagement ring came from Birmingham and she is super pleased with it so maybe I’m just awkward 🤣 they did have some really lovely rings to be fair but I was after something very specific that I’d seen somewhere else so partly my own doing!
I’ve also heard good things about Hatton Gardens, my other half’s friend got his wife’s ring from there but I do think it’s a bit more spendy than Birmingham so if you’re happy to travel up for the day then it’s probably worth it! Xx

This may not be very helpful to you as I’ve got the ring my OH proposed with but mine is a Emmy London ring and I believe he bought it from H.Samuel but it was £1K and it’s stunning! Bit scared to wear it sometimes if I’m honest!

I live in Birmingham & obviousky highly recommend the jewellry quarter. I have been married before & got my first ring from there. I then went back when divorced & sold it to a jewellery buyer.
Now second time around my fiancé got my ring designed there but at a bespoke jewelers, which worked out better value than buying from a shop there. There’s so many shops, so much choice & different budgets.
Plus with some lovely cafes & pubs around there - you can really make a day of it. We regularly go for nights or around because we like the pubs 😂👍🏻
