Blanket trips – Benidorm

My in laws are just back from holiday in Benidorm and were delighted to tell us all about the £1000 worth of Merino wool blankets they had placed an order for.

£1000 for blankets!!!

I googled last night and I think it’s a bit of a con.

Does anyone have any experience of this? They still have time to cancel. I have found a UK website that will do the same package for about £600, but they still have the sales pitch ringing in their ears and say it won’t be the same product.

They don’t have loads of money to spare to don’t want them to get ripped off.

Thanks

Wtf? Who would need £1k of blankets except for a blanket shop? Sounds like the scams they do in places like Tunisia for carpets/rugs.

I know it looks like that to me. My husband spoke with his dad last night and he is prepared to cancel but his mum is still banging on about it.

They take you on a Free day trip and part of it is this sales pitch for 50mins!!

He needs ot get his dad to cancel then, his mum will get over it. It is exactly the type of thing where you get back from holiday and wonder if you had some kind of madness descend

I'm sure my nana fell for this when they were in benidorm a couple of years ago. They got the blankets not sure how much they paid for them, my nana is normally a bit of a "tight arse" so can't see her having paid £1k for them, but aparently they're very good.

I'd definately get your In laws to cancel them though, that amount of money is crazy!

My friend bought a mattress, pillows, blankets etc.for £1200 on a blanket trip in Cyprus and she couldn't wait for it all to be delivered. She used them for a week and now they are up in the loft, to put it her words "They were a waste of money and a load of garbage". She is one of those people who are easily sucked in by sale patter so I wasn't at all surprised when they weren't worth the money. We spoke to the rep about it this year and even he said they were all a con, but he had to plug them but we just said don't bother with us you are wasting your time and he just laughed and said "At last some-one with some common sense". I think I would tell your PIL to cancel.

Two of my elderly aunts went on this blanket trip in Benidorm last year. They didn't buy anything, but said that it all came from somewhere in England ( I think they mentioned Manchester?) anyway so you might be right it is cheaper to buy them directly.

I'm currently E*baying the incredibly expensive very uncomfortable mattress my parents bought on such a trip.

Get them to cancel..pretty certain when they arrive they'll hate them!

What on earth is a blanket trip? what kind of sales pitch would have someone paying a thousand pounds for some blankets? I genuinely don't understand.

Probably the same kind that got me buying the Hare Krishna 'bible' type book in Oxford Street once...£20!! And I was a poor student living on baked bean toasties!

£1k on blankets??!! Good grief. Definitely cancel.

I don't know what it is about some people; when they go away they do get a madness as Lois (I think!) said. My parents signed up for one of those stupid 'holiday company' scams, I told them it was a rip-off but they'd paid their money (£2k I think) and wouldn't cancel. It took them 6 months to realise the con, and then when I set dad up with internet access he googled the company and got all the evidence I'd been telling him about months before Smiley sad And they're usually so careful with money.... But that is something you could try, googling for 'reviews' and showing them the evidence?

My parents go on loads of these - just for the free trips, they did buy a mattress once, but they love it so no harm done really! £1000 quid seems a bit steep for some blankets mind!

Thanks for the replies. They did cancel. They bought an underblanket from John Lewis for £30! They are planning to try that and if they like it I will order them pillows, overblanket etc from one of the cheaper UK sites.
