I did it over the phone and paid the deposit. You will need to go on the website of your venue or the area's local council to find out which office serves you. We're marrying in Hayling Island so I had to contact the Fareham Register office of Hampshire County Council.

We booked our registrar over the phone. We had to pay a 10% of their fee as a deposit £48.00.

We gave our full names inc middle names, dates of birth, current marital status, address, date, time and location of wedding.

We received via post our booking confirmation, and have to give our notice of marriage before end of Jan 2012 and pay the remainder of the money at the same time. We also have to take with us proof of divorce, birth certificate, driver's licence and a utility bill for i.d.

    Good luck!!

I called the registrar on Friday did not go well as i had hoped, they would not let me book over the phone as i have not given notice. They told me that I could go online and do a provisional booking that would cost me an extra £20 which was no refundable. The Lady was not that helpful and as i had mentioned the time i want she said thats not avaiable. Felt totally stressed!!

Any way got off the phone and called my local registrar booked an appointment to give notice next friday at 10. filled the form in online paid the money and hoping to get a time close to that i want but waiting to here back.

keep you fingers crossed for me.

That's not good what a way to add stress, i called our local registrar's office and provisionally booked a date and time i am getting married at the guildhall which is the actual registry office gave all info like full names dob's address confirmed not related etc paid a £25.00 deposit and she made me an appointment to give notice 1 month later i did that in august and paid the £35.00 fee each to give notice and then we pay for the actual ceremony itself 8 weeks before when we give them our music etc and on the day we get re-interviewed to check nothing has changed, hope it all works out in the end x
