Boudoir photoshoot

Bridally, 19 of May of 2015 at 15:45 Posted on Planning 0 11

Has anyone done (or thinking of doing) a boudoir photoshoot?

I'd like to do one for a gift for my H2B but the prices seem extortionate if you want more than one or two images.

Help!! Smiley smile

I did one, and I'm of a mixed opinion. The decision is a very personal one I think and depends quite a bit on your OH's personality.

Reasons I would recommend it: it's kind of fun once you get into it, you get your hair and makeup done, it's an excuse to buy nice undies, it's a confidence boost when you see how hot you look.

Reasons I wouldn't: the cost, the fact your OH might like them but then not look at them ever (like my OH, hasn't looked at them since I showed them to him on our wedding morning).

This last point is the stickler- if your OH would appreciate them it's worth the money as a wedding present. I sort of knew my OH wouldn't fully appreciate them as he is not the lecherous type, even with his own wife! He did say I looked good, but I doubt he will look at them ever again to be honest. He'd probably have preferred a watch or something more practical. So for me, the 'present' was more for me than it was him.

Loads of ladies on one of the FB groups I admin have done one and pretty much unanimously the verdict is that they are brilliant and well worth the money.

When done properly they can be absolutely gorgeous, but the people who are good do tend to cost money as it's quite specialist. Not any old photographer can do it and make the images look sexy and classy. There are cheaper options out there to suit every budget, but beware of the too-cheap ones as they are generally the ones that make their money back on high cost prints. It may take a while but look, look and look some more and hopefully you'll find someone. What area are you in?

I did.one..expensive -over £400 but for me worth every penny. I know Oh will love it as I did a single photo from the same Tog as a valentines gift last year to test the water.

Plus for me it was a celebration of the person I have become since I met him. After a very different marriage of 20 years, I had no confidence in myself so to be so confident that I can take my clothes off for a collection of 20 pictures is really a big deal.

So...well worth it for me, but agreed not for everyone for a variety of reasons.

Good luck and enjoy it if you decide to do it. I.Love love love my photos.

Done it and loved it, but yes, it can work out very expensive. Think mine worked out over £500, but I got an album, USB and printed copy.

I didn't get it for my OH for a wedding present, I got it for myself as much as him. I had them taken just after we got engaged and not long after my 30th birthday so it was a nice milestone to commemorate. I've already said I'd get them done again when I'm 40 ?

They are fantastic to do but a warning, if you are not doing it for your self but for your oh then pass it by him first, I have heard from other photographers that some of their clients partners didn't like them being done, we have never had it because we always ask the person having it done if the other partner will be ok with it.

What Bruce has mentioned is worth considering as i've heard it too, unfortunately. The poor photographer ends up with a literal clip round the ear (or worse!)

But aside from that, also worth testing the water to see if it's the sort of thing your OH would like. I asked a few subtle questions here and there over a few days to gauge interest and my H2B basically said he isn't really a fan and thinks they're a bit pointless as a gift because "what are you going to do with the photos afterwards, rather have the money" Who said romance was dead haha!

Saved myself a few hundred pounds there ?

Never heard of a photographer getting a clip before, only the couple arguing over it.

Hmmmmmmmmm definite food for thought! I really love the idea but not the price tag. And yeah, I can imagine it's one of those things that gets forgotten about in a drawer. But on the other hand I really know my H2B would love and appreciate it. HMMMMM.

I'm based in north west btw

I asked my H2B if this would be something that he'd maybe like to receive, and he told me he didn't see the point - he has seen a lot more of me than boudoir photos would show!

I think it's best to ask whether it's something that your H2B would like.

I was lucky...we have a lingerie boutique nearby that teamed up with a tog offering a valentines boudoir shoot....we paid £25 had make up etc done, a glass of fizz and several photos taken. I then chose one which was framed and which I gave h2b as a valentines gift. If you then went on to book a full session, the £25 was offset against the total cost so you didn't lose anything. So, my h2b loved his gift so I did the full session knowing it would be appreciated. My friend did the valentines session at the same time as me and her hubby was non plussed so she knew not to bother doing it again and only spent her £25 which she was happy with....especially as now she is 7 months pregnant she likes to see the reminder That she once had a different shape!!

My final album arrives on Friday.... It will take all my effort not to let h2b have it before the wedding....only 2 weeks, but even so!!!
