Bras and dress length

Emily, 14 December, 2021 at 17:22 Posted on Wedding Attire 0 5
Two different questions here 😂 firstly, my dress is backless and I have a larger chest and it just doesn't look right if I don't wear a bra,but obviously it looks terrible as all you can see on the open back is the bra. Can anyone suggest anything other than tape that will actually be supportive and not fall off???
And secondly, I have a long flowy dress with a long train, but I'm struggling to walk in it. Any shorter and it won't have the lovely flowy effect so I'm hesitant to get it altered, and it's difficult because it's got lace and beading on it so don't want to ruin that. How can I walk in my dress??

For the bra look online for bras to wear with backless dress, there are some that tie and fasten lower. It see if you can have a bra support built in to the Dress, mine has one and as it is corset you can pull it tight to hold the girls in. Trick is to pull your boobs up and hold them when fastening the corset and they should sit right.

For the train does it have a carry loop or a pick up? This will allow you to walk easier as it takes the weight up and pins it to the back so after the ceremony you won't be dragging it behind. I guess the best thing is to speak to a seamstress and explain your concerns and see what they can do

Usually wedding dresses have some sneaky support into them so I’d see if that’s the case before finding a bra. I’m a busty girl too (FF) and can’t recommend most of the backless/stick on bras I’ve tried, they’re fine for a smooth, slightly uplifted look from the front, but don’t really offer any support. As Charlotte mentioned you can get “converters” which pull down the back of a normal bra, which could work depending how backless the dress is. Best thing is to try the dress the first, see if it give you the support it needs, and if not, if you bought it in a shop they should be able to guide you - or even build some in themselves if they’re dressmakers as well

Well, you'd obviously need a skin-colored one. One with as little lace and stuff as possible and which fit tightly to your body, I think. I'd have to get behind the 'strapless' motion, too - I mean, for practical reasons I understand the need to wear a bra, but with a back like that you'd basically want one that is as invisible as possible, I think. Even a clear, see-through one if you can find one. I have one of these for a dress with a similar back ( https://www.upliftedlingerie.co.uk/bras/42g-bra ) Totally comfortable and has plenty of support.

Depending on the outline of you skirt, you might find it easier to walk with a hooped underskirt as this lifts the fabric from under your feet. You can get them to fit different silhouettes such as A-line or mermaid. You might be able to try one on at your dress shop to see if it helps with ruining the look.
