Bridal dress

Miranda, 2 February, 2023 at 15:34 Posted on Wedding Attire 0 10
Hello 😊
Im a September 2033 bride and just wanted to see people’s thoughts on this.
I haven’t got my dress yet and not planning on until a couple of months before, mainly because I don’t want to stay the same weight (I’m trying to lose currently) so I know if I get one now I will hate it! Also because I’m super indecisive and will probably hate it if I got it a year before! Im just feeling super stressed and under pressure from everyone about this! I want to go to wed2be and get the dress on the day and I have some people I could ask for alterations and I will have everything hopefully sorted by then but I just really wanna leave my dress until last! Has anyone else done this that can share their experiences with leaving this so last minute? Or any advice please

Honestly, I think you are leaving it too late. If you don't find anything in Wed2Be and need to look elsewhere, your unlikely to be able to find a boutique who can order in on short notice. My dress took 6 months to arrive.

Even if you plan on losing weight you can still have the dress altered. Most dresses need altering and you need to factor this time in. Anything under 8 weeks for alterations is usually a rush job and seamstresses will charge you more for this. (Mine charges 25% extra for rush jobs). Also you cannot book in with a seamstress until you actually have the dress and they get booked up quickly. Particularly over the summer when they are at their peak. My seamstress currently has no weekend appointments available until July. That's how far in advance a good seamstress will become booked up.

I would advise you get your dress sooner rather than later and then just get it altered. That way you have the dress but it can be sized down if you lose weight. I would say you need to get it altered around 3 months before the wedding.

I bought my dress in May 2022 for my June 2023 wedding. It took 6 months to arrive and I've just had it go to a seamstress for alterations. I have lost quite a bit of weight in that time and so it is being downsized by 5 inches at my waist and 4 inches on the chest. Most dresses can be downsized by 3 dress sizes. I loved my dress the day I said yes and I love it still now.

Have you looked on the wed2be website to see if they sell dresses you would like? I wouldn't want you to leave it to last minute and then you can't find what you are looking for.

I wanted a high street dress because I didn't want to pay alot so I could have waited until close to the day. Instead I starting shopped 6 months before because I had quite a specific style in mind. I was worried that if I couldn't find a high street brand selling what I wanted then I would need time to order from a boutique.

I would be stressed about leaving it so late, I like most others ordered it about a year beforehand, and it takes 6 months to make.
If you do want to go down the Wed2Be route, have you been in to see if there are any you definitely like? If there isn’t, do you have a back-up plan?

Seamstresses can often take a dress in by 2-3 dress sizes, plus things like a corset back could pull you in exactly how you want/need on the day, so depending on how much weight you’re looking to lose, you can still likely get your dress early, and then get them to take it in later.
I would hate for you to feel amazing at your weight loss, then not have the dress of your dreams to go with it is all. So it is worth considering looking now and seeing what options you have.

Yes I agree its just a but to late, you shouldn't worry about size of the dress because the seamstress are magic. But it does take them a few weeks depending on the work that has to be done. Wed2b personally was not a good experience for me and didn't have many options in the store but everyone Is different, it's good to go to bridal shops to try what you like. It took me a half a year to find a dress I liked and I found it cheaper on the app/website stillwhite and in the right size that might be a option for you and they have so many dresses more than Wed2b.
Good luck finding your dress it's one the most fun experience.

You’re leaving it very late IMO! Most dresses take 6-9 months to come in, and then it’s at least another 2 months for alterations and final fittings…

Hey Miranda. I was having the same issues as I was trying to lose weight before my wedding. I found this custom-made website called Dressarte Paris and they were super helpful. They can take your measurement up to 4 months before the wedding so you could leave this pressure till the end. I don't know if that helps but have a look at their website and ask them questions. The customer service is great.
