Bridal makeup

Rebecca, 6 November, 2021 at 16:06 Posted on Planning 0 6
Hi just wondering if any one can help. How did yous choose your bridal makeup artists? I have recently just been to a wedding and got my makeup done and thought I will probably book the same MUA for my own wedding but I just didn’t love my makeup so now I am thinking how do you decide with out going for makeup trails with loads of different MUA as that would be very expensive

I chose mine after a similar situation and luckily I loved the look. Do you have friends who could make recomendations from their weddings and you can then look at the MUA portfolio to see how they work and narrow it down and book consults with a couple and have trials. The main think is to k ow what you want and stress that to the MUA and if at the trial you don't like it you have to tell them, they will work with you to get it right and make sure you are happy x

I started with asking friends and then just basic internet research. I looked through portfolios of work and narrowed it based on whether there was anything broadly similar to how I wanted to look on a bride who doesn't look completely different to me. I like looking "done", so I didn't thinksomebody who specialises in really subtle, natural make up was a good fit for me. I also looked at whether their portfolio included lots of looks that were very different. I did find that some MUAs clearly had a style of how they like to do make up (which is great if that is what you like!) and others had more diversity in what they had created. I contacted those who had a bit more variety in their style as it felt like they would be able to adapt to what I wanted/what would suit me, rather than what the MUA considered to be nice bridal make up. Then I asked for phone calls with a couple - and went with the person who I enjoyed talking to and I felt understood where I was coming from in how I like to look generally. Good luck!

I would highly recommend you speak to your wedding venue to see if they recommend anyone. Otherwise, a few google searches, speaking with friends and family, or visiting your nearest high street and asking around at hair salons, etc may help. They tend to have a lot of contacts.

I would strongly advise you check out Instagram too once you find a makeup artist. See if they have any online presence and examples of their work! Good luck.

Also how far in advance did yous all book? As a few MUA have already released there 2023 which I didn’t expect. Also why is bridal makeup so much for more than normal makeup as I have seen a price difference of £40 just because it’s for the bride!

I would also say start using make up artists for special events, like birthdays or Christmas so it’s like trial but at least you can use the make up for the day. I’ve also found that looking for artists that have worked on similar skin tones to your own can help to decide how good they are from their photos.
