Bride and Groom Joint Speech

Kia, 18 May, 2023 at 18:19 Posted on Planning 0 2

Hi Guys,

So my FH is very shy and anxious and I'm not so we've decided to do a joint speech of sorts. We don't want it to be a long one as we're doing speeches before eating. If you've done something similar, have any advice on this or key points we should cover please let me know.

Thanks!

I'm doing a speech cos my FH would struggle. I think my Mam is doing one (my dad has decided not to come to the wedding), and I think the Best Man & Groomsman might be doing a joint one.
I did a quick search for ideas, so I'm doing an introduction, a little reminiscence on why I love my FH, and a few special thanks. I think it'll be about 5 mins.

We didn't have speeches, my OH just thanked everyone for coming and acknowledged our dads who both died before our wedding. I think the whole 'speech' took about 1 minute!

Thank yous are important, but you don't actually need speeches. You could always just alternate short sentences of thanks to the relevant people. Keep it simple. Or completely flip the script and have you do the whole speech - after all, men have done all the speaking at weddings for decades if not centuries, so no harm in them having a break for a while!
