Bridesmaid dress for an 11 year old

That's a lovely dress but I don't think itis suitable for an 11 year old. Most of them are a rather different shape from an adult woman and I'm not sure it would look right.

11 year olds "mature" at such different rates though. Some look like children, others have already developed. Despite this, I think she would be more comfortable and look better in a dress that is designed for her age group.

I had the same problem as you. I am having 3 adult bridesmaids, a teenage one at 12 and a flower girl at 6!

We took the 2 younger ones shopping and got the 12 year old to try and the same dresses as the flower girl as they usually go up to a size age 12, but they didnt look right on her. So we just got a dress for the younger one.

I didnt know what i was going to do, then I went shopping with the older ones and found some long dresses for them, and while I was there i just ordered one in the smallest size which was an 8 for the teenage one to give it a go. The older ones had a long version of the dress and i got a knee length one for the teenager as thought it would be better.

She tried it on when it arrived and she looked lovely in it, and she is also going to have thin straps on, as they come as an optional extra. It was just slightly on the big side but think she has grown since and it didnt look too grown up.

I think that dress will be ok with straps and an alteration to the lenght. As there isnt many teenage dresses around really. Especially to match.

I was a bigger bra size age 11-12 & a bigger clothing size than I am now (in my 30's!) so it depends on the size of the girl. I certainly wouldnt have fitted a womens size 6 when I was 11. Can't you ask what size she is?

Whether she is well developed or not, I think a strapless dress like the one you have shown is too mature for her. Lovely dress though. BHS do a teen range, but as you said, you dont want to get 3 different styles of dress.

If you could get more material in that dress colour, she could wear the strapless dress, but with a bolero over the top. If the flower girl is in white or cream, could you get a bolero in that colour for the 11yr old to wear? Thats way she isnt the same as the flower girl, & not the exact same as the older bridesmaids.

Thank you for your replies. I have asked her mum to take her measurements so I can compare them to the size 6 on the chart. My main concern is the bust is too shaped for her although she has already started to develop. The dress comes with thin straps but I can easily put thicker straps on it. I do think she would like to be the same as the adult bridesmaids. If not I think maybe I will get two dresses made so her and the flower girl have maybe lilac dresses as I know matching the purple colour is going to be impossible!

Rachel you have reassured me that my plan to alter a size 6 may actually work!

No problem Jaxxs, I was surprised how well it fit her. I thought we would have to get it altered around the top bit. I old think the 11 year would like to be the same as the adults as she will feel more grown up and special. xx

I agree with AC that that dress is to old for an 11 year old. It does depend on the maturity of your 11 year old.

My niece was 11 (only a few weeks off being 12) but she was a 'young' 11 year old and loved being dressed the same as my flower girls.
