Bridesmaid dresses what do they cost?

drifter, 4 August, 2009 at 08:31 Posted on Planning 0 19

So people ougly as a guideline I am wondering what prices adult BM dresses come in at as I am trying to work out my BM budget , i have been looking at Dessy, and foreveryours for inspiration. I am propably goin gto have to go down this route as at least one of my BMs will be based abroad so easier for her to try these dreses on.

I love some of the J Crew dresses but they don't seem to ship to the UK (boo).

Thanks in advance

    Hi Drifter!

it can cost anything! depends on your style (ie if more casual then hit the sales in monsoon etc). I originally assumed it would be about 70 squid a dress but as our budget is extremely tight my BMs will get their own, something they can wear again as well. I have 4 BMs and they are each in a different country! so gave them a colour swatch, some references to style and plenty of notice. Hopefully they will have the common sense to run anything past me before buying it... saying that, I better ask them to do so!

I'm not sure if this was any help at all, sorry....

    Hi

22tango, I am thinking tea length dresses, with some sort of strap (at BM's request). My sister and I are going to look in a couple of weks, I'm just trying to gauge prices so I can see how many BM's I can have.

I' expect£100-£150 or more for the specific BM's dresses but wondering ifplaces give you a discount for ordering several. Also do people know what in general the various suppliers charge.

Currently avoiding coast / monson etc... as wouldn't want a guest in the same dress as my BMs. (won't be buyng them for a while but working on budget at moment to see where we are with daving etc

It really does depend what dress you buy - they can be anywhere between £50 and £300 for BM dresses.

I bought Dessy dresses for my BMs but I've ordered them from America which is way cheaper. On average in the bridal shop the Dessy dresses were about £170 for the tea length and £220 for the full length - obviously give or take depending on the styles.

    Best of luck!!!!!!

    Hi

I have ordered Kelsey Rose for my adult bridesmaids they were £197 each and my flower girls were £138 from Tous Les Jours, I think the cost depends on how detailed the dresses are ????

    Hi Drifter,

My aunt had Forever Yours dresses last year. She bought hers for £120 each. We went to the shop she bought them from on Saturday to have a look for mine and the same dresses had gone up to £140. They were long chiffon dresses.

    Hope that helps.

We had Alfred Angelo and their dresses were around £125 for tea length, to £160 for full length in most styles. I ordered long and had them shortenened to tea length.

    Here they are!

One thing you might want to think about too though are the extras; shoes, jewellery, flowers, hair.... obviously your BMs may offer to pay for any or all of these but worth sticking on the budget as they add up!

    Thankyou ladies

I am finding this very helpful so keep up the information.

My two definate bridesmaids (my stick with 2 or go up to 4). Have alreaddy both offered to pay for dresses, which I have declined however they will be buying their own shoes I am not going to dictate shoes to them one is 5'4 and one is 5'11 they would never wear the same shoes, also I am not going to hair and make up for them as want everyone to be happy so will leave tha choice to them to.

Ahh I am thinking necklace etc will pobably double as gifts so have that covered else where in budget,

Laura Lee your BM dresses are stunning.

I love those dresses Laura Lee - plus that's the colour I want my BMs in! £160 sounds fairly reasonable although I wanted to spend around £100 originally. Where do you get Alfred Angelo dresses if you don't mind me asking? Do you order online or are there actual stockists?

Sorry another question - do the Alfred Angelo prices go down for younger BMs? I have 2 adults and 1 teen who will be 14 at the time, if I ordered a dress for her would it be cheaper than £160 do you know?

Sorry for crashing your thread drifter!! In answer to your question, I think BM dresses really can vary but you can probably get some really good deals on the high street - e.g. Debenhams' Debut range or BHS. The only problem with that is, as someone else pointed out, there's more chance one of your guests could pick the same dress!

I got mine from Debenhams, full length with a sweetheart neckline.

They were £120 each but I bought 2 in the spectular sale for £90 each and then when I went to buy the third one, weirdly only the size 10's were in the sale with 50% off but the reast were full price, so I've paid £240 for 3 dresses

I got mine from a bridal shop - they did the alterations and steamed them for us too so it was all easy. I think you could probably order online from the US but I preferred to go to the shop and get the service of the fittings and everything there.

Sorry I don't know the junior prices as I ordered some extra fabric through them too and made sashes for the flowergirl dresses (that I got in BHS for less than £30!) and had cravats made too so they all matched. Oh and had the BM's bag covered in it too which was cheaper than having them dyed (original bags were £5 in the sale!)

    Colour was celadon btw.

Thanks Laura Lee - good to know you can get them in bridal shops as I agree, I'd want them to be able to actually go and try them on, get fittings etc. Will have a little look on the website and see if I can find any stockists near me.

The flower girl dress is gorgeous - I'm going to need something similar to that as well!!

Ahh now that is genius I never thought about ordering extra material to get matching cravats, my only other thoght was getting the dresses made and buyin gmaterial but I fear this would be even more expensieve.

your flower girl is super sweet, I think we might avoid the whole flower girl issue as I have 2 nieces who will be approx 10 and 8 at th etime and OH has a niece who will be 8 ish and would have to have them all and then we are in crazy territory! in terms of organising etc (plus as we have a friday wedding their parents may not want to pull them out of school. We are leaving that decision to the parents).

You want cute? Here you go!!

They are OH's.. well mine now I suppose... nieces. They LOOK sweet... hmmm... yes the extra fabric worked well but it was £25 a metre so had to work out exactly how much I needed before ordering as didn't want to waste any.

Oh also; we had a bit of extra fabric as we shortened the long dresses to tea length so had the bottom of the dresses to cover the bags with.

My adult ones were £140 each. They are/were full length ones with a sash, I'm having two cut shorter, one tealength/50s style and one pencil style. The alterations are £20-30 each - but even for the one I'm leaving long needs altering as they are made to order not made to measure, so budget something for alterations.

My little BM's (10yo) are having theres made with material from Alfred Angelo and are costing £90 each.

I found shops don't really offer a discount on multiple BM dresses as most people are ordering more than one. Some shops do have some offers though, especially if you get your dress from them too.

Thanyou ladies this is proving really useful, so anyone else out there with anything to add feel free.

It is interesting to see how much price varies. I have thought about ordering from USA but think the import tax might be a killer

    Hey,

I bought my bridesmaids dersses a few weeks ago, I have 3 Adult Bridesmaids and originally only wanted to spend £100.00 each, I couldnt find anything in the budget and was basically laughed out of one shop (much to my chief bridesmaids disgust who gave her a piece of her mind ha ha!) I eventually went to Beatties and its a Margot Raybould shop and they stock plenty of dresses, I eventually chose a Dessy dress and they were £140 each but they are gorgeous and my bridesmaids love them :o)

Hope you find something soon x
