Bridesmaid: flowers or no flowers??

auburnmama, 26 of June of 2014 at 13:55 Posted on Planning 0 15

Hi all,

hoping for some inspiration and general advice/comments please.

I'm getting married next month (was next year but bought it forward) and the only thing I'm undecided on is whether to get the bridesmaids flowers or not.

I am only having two, plus my daughter (who is actually giving me away so not a true bridesmaid role) and I wasnt going to get flowers tbh - we didnt want costs to go crazy on something that, well, just dies! but will it look odd? I'm thinking that maybe they do need a small posy or bouquet etc.

Anyone got any opinions on this? anyone have no bridesmaid flowers? I'm popping in to see the florist tomorrow re my bouquet so guess I can order something then if needs be.

thanks! x

I like seeing bridesmaids with flowers. We got ours the same as mine but smaller and a bit different colour wise, they didn't cost that much either.

Even silk flowers, button bouquets etc whatever the bride chooses but i think bridesmaids look uncomfy not holding anything. If it were me i wouldn't know where to put my hands. My sister in law had her bridesmaids with wrist corsages and they looked nice but you could tell they felt quite awkward.

I think some people just carry clutch bags as well instead? I just like flowers personally but whatever you and they prefer Smiley smile

I am having three bridesmaids and we aren't having bouquets, they are having wrist corsages. The main reasons for this are that the bridesmaids are being escorted down the aisle by the ushers so I'm not sure how great it would look and also what will they do with it after the ceremony...dump it on a chair/table and forget about it probably.

It is awkward not holding anything and walking down an aisle.

If you don't want flowers, one way to solve this is to have the groomsmen escort the 2 bridesmaids down the aisle. That way the ladies only have one arm free, and the other clasping the arm of the gent.

Presumably you would hold your daughter's hand or arm in a similar way, so she wouldn't need anything either.

I am having bouquets for my bridesmaids, as others have said they may feel awkward with their hands otherwise?

Have you thought about getting them fans instead?

Great for holding, keeping cool in the hot weather, and are some lovely inexpensive ones available.

They could carry a single rose or a single of something that is featured in your bouquet. Would only cost about £7-£10 max with some fern and ribbon. That will ease any awkwardness of what to do with their hands too. Another alternative would be a small pouch bag or dolly bag as they are known which are around £8 and made from satin with a drawstring.

Yeah very good point - the awkwardness of what to do with ones hands whilst walking up the aisle...

also good suggestions for alternatives, I'll look into them all :-)

It may possibly look a little awkward to see bridesmaids without any flowers! If you don’t want costs to go high, consider getting smaller bouquets with different colors for the ladies who’ll be accompanying you (including your daughter).

Another equally great idea will be bridesmaids wearing wrist corsages, mainly because they look beautiful and don’t cost too much. Ultimately, since it’s your wedding, the decision of what you want to get for the special day is totally up to you!

I think it looks weird without... Ive seen the bridesmaids with handbag things and personally think it looks ridiculous just like a random guest has showed up late and is wandering down the aisle

you dont have to use flowers though ive seen homemade bouquets made out of all sorts like: coke cans, pearls, silk flowers, feathers, buttons etc... poundland does fake flowers and decorations, I have a silver holographic 'grass' style bundle in a vase in my living room its pretty and could be trimmed down to be a bouquet and only cost £1

if walking with groomsmen I can see how it maybe different to walking alone though as they could lock arms which would make carrying a bouquet a little awkward

I'm using foam flowers. Just roses and cream and ivory and they look very real. £2.50 for 6 so £5 per bouquet! It's saved me a lot of money! My bouquet is real but that's mainly for photographs. The BM have all admitted they will probably put them down and forget about them after the ceremony and photos so I didn't want to spend a fortune

    Hi

For my first wedding they just carried small bags trimmed with flowers. I was in a delima this time as my wedding is over 2 days and fresh flowers wouldn't have work. Someone on here suggested fake ones and recommended Pink Lilac - (pinklillac.com) I have order flowers from them and they were really reasonable. They do wrist corsages and I got wands for my little bridesmaids.

Hi auburnmama like others have said, the silk route is probably the best to go on. I'm in the same position as yourself and don't know whether to have flowers for my Bridesmaids but I think I've just been swayed by my cousin who just reminded me how inexpensive and amazingly realistic silk flowers are becoming. here's a pic of the teardrop bouquet Im swaying on, and if I go down this route I'll definitely be getting silk flowers for my bridesmaids so they can keep them forever and so can I Smiley smile
