Newbie alert!!!

Looking for bridesmaid dresses that go up to size 24. Budget is around £50... can anyone help. Saw a lovely one in sale for 55 but only goes up to 22. Open to any styles at the moment. One I liked was long. Dusky pink

These go up to 26 - and they have a code for 10% off the first order

I love their dresses and did look at bridesmaid dresses from them - but nothing suited my theme - I have a few of my own dresses from them that I have worn to formal events and the like Smiley smile

Also Chi Chi London go up to a 24. I got my BM dresses from them and they are fantastic:

I think as long as you have the same or very similar colours, then there's something very elegant about having different dresses. My bridesmaids are having different dresses in the same colours because of size, height and shape differences as well as personal preferences. Especially the bridesmaid who is a 24, it might be nice to let her have a lot of input into the dress she wears because, being a large size myself, I know I would like this (for things like bra-hiding and feeling confident that I looked good and not compared to a thinner girl in the same dress).

Both Little Mistress and Chi Chi do all their curvy dresses in their generic ranges too - just on different parts of the websites - so having one bridesmaid a size 14 and one a 24 shouldnt be a problem ?

On Chi Chi you could search for dresses available in both a 14 and 24 to make it easier!

I do minor alterations for myself and my friends and it's near impossible to make a dress bigger. It all depends on how much material is available in the seam allowance and in a shop-bought dress it's not much (they're generally cut away and overlocked to stop it looking bulky). If it's a corset back and just too tight in the midriff, then extra material might make a difference, but if it's too tight everywhere you'll have a problem. That's just in my limited experience of alterations but you could always speak to a professional seamstress for a proper opinion.

    Hi,

Have you looked on eBay? I've ordered my bridesmaids dresses from there as they were made to order and some sellers go up to a 26? They were within your budget. X

I regularly make my own clothes (I'm actually going all 1950s and making my own trousseau for the honeymoon - including underwear!), and I agree that those alterations would be difficult. It looks like it's probably a side zip fastening, which means you can't just unpick the seams to let it out. Assuming it's not a side zip and just pulls on, the seams are likely to have been cut short and overlocked, so the only way to put extra material in is to insert new panels of material, which affects the way the dress will hang.

Have you thought about speaking to some seamstresses about getting your dresses made bespoke? It doesn't necessarily have to be as expensive as you think.

Don't have many suggestions but just wanted to say I completely feel your pain - I also have a £50 budget and it's tricky - I've decided to wait til the sales and try my luck there....little mistress seems nice though Smiley smile
