Bridesmaid woes

Mrsi2Be, 1 February, 2021 at 22:56 Posted on Planning 0 2

Hi All
Looking for some advice.
Getting married in September (hopefully) everything has been organised for quite a while just need to get bridesmaid dresses ordered.
One of my bridesmaids lives locally so was able to come dress shopping with me between all these restrictions, where at one appointment she tried some bridesmaid dresses on to get a feel for styles.
My other bridesmaid lives a lot further away and hasn't been able to travel due to restrictions. Having found a dress designer and style we liked i asked the other bridesmaid to go to her nearest stockist to try them on to make sure the style suited her as well and that she was comfortable in it. Gave her the option to try different styles on too, so long as she felt good in it. So this was around early October time and she hasn't been, she would have had time/opportunities but just hasn't gone or even mentioned it at all. Obviously since after Xmas the whole country has been pretty much on lockdown.
There has been a few occasions where I've felt like she hasn't been interested in the wedding at all. I've tried to involve her in almost everything, telling her when I've booked things etc but she just comes back with a few words and changes the subject. We have been friends since school so I expected a little more excitement from one of my closest friends. In past conversations when she has mentioned every other event she had planned (pre covid..!) It made me feel like oh wow, when will she fit coming dress shopping/hen do in. It almost felt like being bridesmaid was an inconvenience. So I have mentioned it a couple of times and she always said oh i will be there when ever you need me to be.
I know if I mention her going to try dresses on she will just make excuses why she never went and obviously lockdown, which will just make me feel bad for reminding her. I will probably just sit on it until shops open up again but also aware that they will need to be ordered in the next 3 months. Im not keen on ordering them from different places and ideally want them altered by the same person ... I've heard horror stories of dresses being slightly different colours when ordered at different times and where dresses have been altered by different people not same length/ dress features not altered correctly... ive always made this clear to her.A little lost on what to do.
Any advice appreciated.

Have you checked whether the designer/ any stockists are doing try at home options? Otherwise, at this point, she may just have to pick her design online and get it altered to fit. Lots of people manage by buying dresses online without trying them first. It’s not ideal, but it might be the only option.

She may not be comfortable trying on dresses in a shop during a pandemic, even if restrictions permit. I wouldn't be. Can you see if it is possible to mail order the dress you like for her to try on?
