Bridesmaids colours!

hellsbells78, 14 May, 2009 at 15:10 Posted on Planning 0 18

Hi there! Am getting married in July 2010 and have the venue and the church sorted - and thats it! The thing I am really stressing over is my colours for my bridesmaids. One is blonde, one brunette and one a red head!

I really like the moss colour from dessy (style 6553) but my blonde bridesmaid (who is also my sister and living abroad) is really not struck by the green. She is not coming home till February and I really dont want to wait that long for her to get her dress.

Can anyone think of an alternative colour for her or shall I go with my instinct and put her in green (which I think she will look lovely in!)

Sorry for going on - am new to this and its all a bit much!!!

?

    Hi and welcome

What about brown -that would go with all 3 hair colours or black or navy blue

you want your sister to be comfortable so you dont wana put her in something she will hate!

    Thanks for the advice!!

To be honest all my friends have had brown and I wanted somehting a bit different! After much looking by my sister on the website she quite likes the Venetian gold which is a matte gold....then can have her in gold and the other two in the green....think that might go....

Will probably change my mind a million times!!?

I really like the trend for miss-mash dresses, could you do something like that to keep all your Bridesmaids happy and suit their different hair colours and skin tones?

The green you have in mind would work nicely. A nice pale blue would also suit them all.

I've been a bridesmaid and worn that exact Dessy moss green. There were 3 bridesmaids, me the redhead, a brunette and a blonde. It suited us all. It's a lovely colour.

How about finding a bridal shop near to her who have a sample in the green that you like - asking her to go there and try the dress on and have the shop take a photo of her in it to send you? She might like it more once its on, or you might not like it on her when you see it.

Personally I wouldn't want to order without her trying it, you wouldn't want her to me uncomfortable.

Which dresses are you thinking of?

Thank you for all the replies!! Its nice as a newbie to know that there are people who can help! The main problem is that my sister (blonde) lives in Dubai and there are no Dessy stockists out there.

I have looked at other colours but I keep coming back to the green...its also my fiances favourite. I just want everyone to be happy but at the moment its all a bit stressful!!

Tell her to lump it then, and buy it! lol

Could you take the other bridesmaids to try on the dress in the mossy green colour and send her a photo, with a note saying, what do you think?

This is going to sound very bitchy, and most of the hitched ladies wont agree with me here, but.....

    It's your wedding,

You kindly asked her to be a BM,

    You are buying the dress...

.....so, she should wear what you politely ask her to wear, (unless she's COMPLETELY uncomfortable in it.

If it were her, I'm sure she'd do the same!

I would wear a lime green tank top and fuschia pink, wet-look leggings if that's what my SIL (who I see as a Sister already) wanted me to wear at her wedding!!

I gave my BMs a fairly free reain, I auggested a colour and they went with it. I thien tried to change the colour and said that majority rules (also have 3 BMs) unfortunately only one of the three liked the new colour so we stuck with the old, even though one doesn't like it she is good enough to go along with it anyway. I think if 2 agree to the green then you need to, in the nicest possible way, impose it.

Has she come up with an alternative colour suggestion?

That doesnt sound bitchy - just direct!! Have just had a text from her saying she thinks she can get home in September. That makes me feel a bit happier...just thought that February was too late as we have to get the invites sorted by then and I wanted everything to match!!

Thanks for all your help everyone!!

    Hi,

Just letting you know a great website to find bridal and bridesmaid jewellery, http://www.purple-label.com/jewellery/web/type/earneck/id/3100

The illusion necklaces are particularly good for bridesmaids as they come in a varitey of colours, to match any colour scheme you choose to go with, and are lovingly handmade here in the UK!

    Good luck planning!

I originally wanted a green bm dress but in the end we went for this and my bm really suits the blue. The good thing with taffeta material is that is goes from a silver/purple/blue depending on how you look at it in different lights so isn't a definite blue.

Anyway just another idea for you.

Thanks for all your replies!! Have spoken to my mum today and she says I should play the 'I have set my heart on green and it would make my day etc....' card.

I dont think my sister is being awkward on purpose and if she knows that it means a lot then she will wear it....plus everyone I have asked thinks she will look lovely!

    Wish me luck!!

    Welcome to hitched ?

I know that you have had some great advice already but just wanted to add that all green shades can be different maybe your sister is thinking of a "different" moss shade and that is what she doesn't like, she might change her mind when she sees it ?

Thank you all so much for your replies...it looks like my sister has relented and agreed that she can cope with the green for me as its my day. I think my mum may have had a quiet word!!

On the strict condition of course that I wear pink when she gets married!! Reckon I can live with that...
