Bridesmaids dresses in different shades

April21Bride, 25 March, 2021 at 17:59 Posted on Planning 1 13
Okay ladies I’m having a major panic attack. My bestie and MOH has just told me she’s pregnant and will be 7 months at my wedding in the summer ( I’ve had to postpone from April because of lockdown restrictions lifting late).

I’m happy for her and both agreed I still want her to be part of my day (and she wants to as well) the only issue is I’d already bought the BM dresses and there is no way she’ll fit into hers. I’m now trying to find maternity dresses that don’t cost a fortune and fit in with our colours. This is proving harder than expected . So my question is can I have my pregnant MOH in a different dress ( I have 1 MOH, 2 BM, 2 flower girls and a ring bearer in my party) without it looking awful?I’m currently stress drinking wine whilst also looking for more dresses ??.Any support/suggestions would be greatly appreciated . I should add the pale green in the above picture Is the BM dresses I selected. The sage (darker) green is the maternity dress I’m considering adding to the mix x

They look lovely together - it won't matter having different colours, especially as the one in the different colour is the MOH who often has a slightly different dress to the other bridesmaids anyway.

You can do what you like really, there are no rules anymore. I only have one adult BM: my sister and the others in my party are all children aged from 3-14! So I doubt they will be able to have the same style of dress anyway plus the 3 year old is a boy! So my party will all look different. LOL

I love the dark shade, and texture in colour schemes is sophisticated!

    Thank you.
Your idea sounds beautiful- I think I was stressed because I’d wanted them all in the same dress and had spent a lot of time thinking about necklines etc to make that happen.
    Feeling much better now

Thank you. In the interim I’ve found a seamstress that can alter my MOH dress to accommodate the bump- feeling so much more comfortable having options x

Aw thanks and actually there are no other children at the wedding so it will make it special for them. My youngest nephew will be 3 so we will put him in a little trousers and shirt outfit prob not a suit and I’m still deciding about the four junior bridesmaids who will be aged 8,10,12 and 14 and their dresses as I think it will be tricky to get all the same in that age range! So I don’t mind if they are all different but same colour.

The 3 children in my bridal party will also be the only kids at our wedding.

Those are tricky ages especially for girls! I’ve not decided what my nephew will wear I am leaning towards a shirt and trousers as it’s summer (July wedding) but I do think it looks so ☺️ when you see kids in suits - he’ll be wearing suspenders and a tie that matches the flower girls/BM. Can’t wait

Yes I can’t wait either! Nice that you have only kids in the party too. I think I will put George my little nephew in trousers and shirt and I did wonder about braces (as we call them, suspenders are a totally different thing to me!) but I won’t bother with a tie as he’s so young! Junior bridesmaids dresses are a bit tricky yes, I’m hoping I can get them all in similar colour without too much fuss lol

I saw some lovely dresses on JJ’s house that you can customise- might work for various junior bridesmaids styles etc.
I’ll likely go high street as I want to match the flower girls sashes to the rest of the bridal party.

Haahaa, re the braces/ suspenders! I use the words interchangeably tbh.

Thanks ladies, in the end I bit the bullet and purchased a standard size dress 2 sizes bigger. I realised how important it was to me to have all my bridesmaids in the same dress and colour. A seamstress has agreed to fit the dress to her bump.
