We were in Clevedon a few weekends ago. Ali from Ali's Country Kitchen is making personalised biscuits favours for us and our wedding cake... and all very reasonably too! She's charging us about £70 for a two-tier cake and £1 per biscuit. Are you having it at Clevedon Hall?

We've got most things but still have to confirm our coaches for the guests, book video cameras for our DIY videography project, do the seating plan, and I'm still trying to sort out my hair! It really does fly by... you'd be surprised! Have you done much for yours so far? Have you decided on colours? Are you having a theme?

Wow thats a great price for the baking. we are having ours at the walton park hotel overlooing the sea. the colour will be cadbury purple and butterfly theme because when we meet all those years ago a butterfly landed on the table so they hold a special meaning to us.

all we have done is book the venue and sourced stationary stuff but i will be starting to get more organised from this month.

how about you whats your colour theme etc??

Zobie – I like your theme/colour. We are going for purple. Ali's Country Kitchen sounds very reasonably priced, is it in clevedon? x

How sweet! The hotel will be so nice!

My colours are pink and ivory - I never thought I'd be a bride having pink but I love pink peonies and have always wanted to have them for my wedding. And as it's a spring wedding - pink seemed to be a nice scheme.

We also have a slight travel/post theme - mainly because I'm from the states and my H2B is from Ireland. We met in Boston and did long distance for a year before we moved to Bristol together. All of our table names are places special to us like our hometowns, the pub where we met, the Boston and Dublin airports since we have spent so much time in them Smiley smile etc. Our Save the Dates were themed as telegrams and for our guestbook, we're using postcards from our hometowns, Bristol, and Boston. We'll ask guests to pick one, write a message, and then 'post' is in an Irish post box that we're picking up tomorrow. The seating plan is going to be a world map with airmail envelopes listing the table and the guest names... with pins and ribbon tying them to the places on the map... as long as my H2B goes for it! I think he will because he loves maps.

How big is yours going to be? How long have you guys been together?

Lembs8 - that sounds awesome. i love everything travel related too as iused to work in the travel indsutry. the post cards for a guest book sounds so awesome --- i cant wait to see pics from your big day.

we are having 50 for the day and about 90-100 for the everning and this is without inviting all my family. my family is huge. we have been together 5 years on last st paddys day! and my OH family are from ireland so we will have a few irish songs being played on the evening no doubt.

how big is your day going to be?

Hi Jayne! Tell us all about your wedding!!!

Yes - Ali's Country Kitchen is in Clevedon. Ali basically does it out of her home so no bakery to go to but she is lovely and her cakes are delicious. We're having one tier of carrot cake and one tier of victoria sponge all covered in buttercream! She had us over to her house for a tasting and we talked everything through. I highly recommend her!

We're having an Irish trio during the drinks reception. They're called Sergeant Early's Dream. I can let you know if they're worth booking after the wedding Smiley smile Also, as we're buying our Irish post box, you could hire off us if you want to use it for yours. It's a cast iron green old P&T irish post box. I'll see if I can find a picture.

We're having about 90 for the whole day. My side is all travelling from abroad and most of my H2B's side are coming from Ireland. He has a huge family too so we have to limit it to Aunts, Uncles, and 1 cousin from each family. Otherwise, we would have invited 150 on just his side without friends!

We have Tracy Park in Wick booked. Going for purples. Don’t really have a theme as such☹️. I have been designing our invites, which are purple, have 2 bunnies on and a purple button, bunnies because I have one and he is so cute and a button because my dress has buttons at the back.

Lembs – I love your ideas, it makes it all so personal. Really does sound fantastic. Does Ali have a website? We really love carrot cake!

Zobie – will you be able to have any photos done on the pier?

Its surprising how many people you could invite to a wedding and we have limited ours to aunts/uncles and no kids apart from siblings kids otherwise we would probably end up with about 200+.

i love bunnies and i think their cute too. you sound creative and crafty if your designing your own invites.

iv not even started looking for a dress yet but think i would like one with a bit of colour in !

Thanks! I can't wait to see it all come together! This is Ali's website. There's not many pictures of wedding cakes but she has done plenty. If you're looking for something extravagant and show stopping she might not be the right choice but if you want some fun, personal, rustic etc. she's great. https://www.aliscountrykitchen.com/

i really wanted invites with bunnies on and couldnt find any so ive done it myself. at first i was making it to complicated, but the design were going with is quite simple.

i was really lucky with my dress, i was a bit worried about getting it sorted so soon, but my mums friend owned a bridal shop and was retiring, and had all her sample dresses at her house, so me and my mum went and found my one! she gave us a great price.

Hiya - we wanted to be married by the sea initially but thankfully (looking back now) the venue let us down (place in Cornwall), thinks its much easier being closer!

Yes Olddown has just had a 5 mill makeover - it was still a building site when we saw it but I fell inlove instantly, infact said hardly anything as i was so choked up.

The view is over the Severn and as I grew up sailing there every weekend and my father still does it feels quite personal in a way :-)

The only kind of 'theme' really is roses, my favours are homemade jam and pickle covered in different material scraps all with roses on, we have a rose and drawing on the venue on the out side of the invites and a spray of faint roses inside, my cake is cupcakes some topped with roses and yes will be carrying roses lol

shall we all flash what we have already??

Hi it was the Atlantic Hotel - its gorgeous and had our first week away there together but we booked an appointment with the wedding planner went down the night before and stayed (to reassure ourselves we still loved it there and it aint cheap) then went for the appointment the next day and the wedding planner wasnt there and 'no one' else could help us!

She finally replied to my email complaining saying she had a last min problem which is fair enough but anyone can make a phone call really and she never really went out of her way to offer to try to make it up to use - eg a discount if we still booked so I decided as it was so far I didnt want to rish it.

A LOVELY person tho is still making my cake as I'd fell in love with her cup cakes and we were seeing her that day too so she said she'd still make our cake and bring it up on the day and wouls only ask her to cover her petrol so I can hightly recommend her.

Which is your venue? if its the Atlantic am sure mine was just a one off!

Ah okay, yes I know it!

That's really bad of them, especially as you travelled all that way! Fortunately ours isn't the Atlantic although we did go and look it! I'm glad for 2 reasons now that we didn't choose it as 1) because of how they treated you and 2) we had my works Christmas do there and the profiteroles were the worst think I've ever tasted! Like cardboard and I love my food, am not a fussy eater at all so it must have been bad!

We're getting married at The Falmouth Hotel.

That's lovely of your cake lady, who is it?

We're getting married July 2013 and it'll be a vintage / village fete sort of theme.

I can flash our venue :-D

I'm making a lot of the decorations etc myself so it's all very much work in progress at the mo and curently looking at TOGs and caterers....it still seems so far away!

    Hi ladies,

I've just come across this thread and had to comment as I am a Bristol bride!!!

We are getting married at Coombe Lodge www.coombelodge.co.uk in March 2013.

I have most things sorted, but am struggling to find bridesmaid dresses. It probably doesn't help that both my maids live hours away so hard to get them to try dresses on!

Our colour scheme is purple, pink and ivory xx
