Broken toe - how long to heal?

Hungry Caterpillar, 22 December, 2008 at 12:24 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 7

I broke my toe two weeks ago (middle toe of my right foot). I went to the doctor to get it checked out, and they sent me to the hospital for an X-Ray. At the hospital they confirmed it was broken, strapped it up and gave me crutches - they said it should be ok in about a week and a half. I didn't get any sort of follow-up appointment but was just told to return the crutches when I don't need them.

Anyway, it still really hurts, and I can't put weight on it / wear any shoes other than trainers / drive / walk properly. I'm not asking people to diagnose me but just wondered if anyone had experience of this type of injury, how long did it take to heal.

I think I'm pretty impatient and just want it to be back to normal!

Ouch! Poor you. When I broke one of my toes, it took about 4 weeks to mend fully. It was strapped up and for a month I could only wear trainers and wide shoes, so I sympathise. Having said that, it did start improving around 3 weeks in that I could walk better.

    Thanks for that Crookshanks!

I'm hoping it will be better after Christmas. Ah well, I suppose it gives me an excuse to have Mr Caterpillar, his mum and then my parents fussing over me at Christmas! Although I don't think Mr Caterpillar will be so happy that he will have to do all the driving!

Sorry but ? at arse over norks.

I fell down the stairs two weeks ago (right from the top ?) and had a nasty collision with a closed stair gate at the bottom. My toes aren't broken but still hurt mightily, so I can only imagine how sore an actual break is. Hope the toes are better soon!

I broke my big toe about 6 1/2 years ago, and it took about 6 weeks to heal and about 4 weeks for the multicoloured bruising that went up to my ankle to disappear. I didnt have any strapping though (or crutches)

    Thanks for your replies!

Welsh Totty - I have the coloured bruising around my toes - nice!

Decibelle - I did mine in an embarassing way too, I stubbed my toes on a door frame whilst running from one room to another to tell my husband the X factor result!

the rainbow of bruising is pretty albeit painful. I broke my toe by trying to be clever and jumping up the two steps leading from the dining room to the living room when we first moved in to our house, I managed to whack my toe on the top step with full force, then 2 days later Mr WT dropped the corner of a kingsize mattress on it for good measure. Needless to say I was in pain. lol

Hope it feels better soon as broken toes are pants. x
