BT related. TTC and booking holidays...

Rod, 10 January, 2013 at 08:31 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 21

As some of you know H and I are currently TTC. Not religiously charting or taking temperature, but definitely trying. We're on month 4 now.

last night we were looking at holidays, thinking of having a week in Egypt in may. If we book it we have to pay the full balance off by the end of the month. I'm well up for a holiday but started thinking last night, what if I get pregnant? When can / can't you fly? Would I enjoy myself?

I don't want to put my life on hold for maybes, so I'm inclined to say sod it just book it. Or the other option is to book the week of work and do a last minute holiday nearer the time. However this would mean we can't guarantee availability at our chosen resort.

Any advice or experiences of holidays while pregnant (anything from 1-5 months) would be appreciated!

Thanks x

I say book it. Don't put your life on hold. Most airlines will let you fly up to 28 weeks, some beyond, though your GP will need to confirm you 'fit to fly' in the later stages.

That said, my step Uncle is Egyptian, I would be avoiding Egypt on his recommendation. It's a bit too volatile for my liking, even in the touristy bits. I don't think I'd fancy the begging hassle when pregnant either.

We've been to Egypt before and loved it, will have to do some more research as it was a few years ago thanks Storky.

Yeah I might just book something, I need something to look forward to! And slim down for...!

My husband maintains the highlight of his visit was seeing a dead cow floating down the Nile! It's such a shame that visits can't be without hassle now, goes for large swathes of the world now though, I guess.

Don't put your life on hold over TTC or you will end up regretting it! Make the most of doing what you want now as it's harder when you have a LO.

Sod's law says you will end up gettin pg on holiday, lol

I went on honeymoon at 15 weeks pg and was fine. I think you can travel pretty late as long as you don't have complications. Don't put your life on hold rod. God forbid it didn't happen for a while, you're missing out then on all these great times!

Hi guys, thanks for your replies. I'm not putting my life on hold, no way! I want a holiday and dont mind being away while pg! I just wasnt sure on whether i'd be allowed to fly. I heard loads about only being able to fly in the second tri? Not sure where i heard this tho haha!

Storky I looked at the recommendations for Egypt and its sayin not to go. Gutted cos i love it there! But we will look elsewhere. Thinking of getting a villa somewhere hot. Where else is hot in May? Maybe the canaries?

Beginning or end of May? Dubai is probably too hot at the end of May?

Go for it! I think the 2nd tri thing is only because you tend to feel better. I can't imagine having been on a long flight when I was feeling at my worst (around 7-8 weeks) but by now I'd have no problem.

Thanks - Dubai is prob a bit far for a week - plus expensive. We would be looking at 5hours or less for the flight!

We are thinking of going to Thialand next February and the first thing H said was what if I've fallen pregnant, so we've agreed to just save for it as if we are going but book a bit later on in the year. I think if you can do that then it saves any hassle and any worry you'll have of loosing any money.

    Hi

I travelled to the Caribbean at 9 weeks pregnant 15 years ago and dr said it was fine.

I would not go to Egypt 1, volatile and 2, risk of food poisioning.

Definately go away - Canaries will be lovely, Cyprus will too.

We went to Protaras at the end of last year, it was nice. Not a holiday we would do again as we got a bit bored towards the end of the week, but great for a relaxing break. We are FB friends, I have a photo album from it on there.

Also, have been to Gran Canaria a few times now (actually contemplating living there someday) and I would highly recommend a holiday there at any time of year. Particularly Amadores or Mogan, I have also heard that Taurito is gorgeous, but cannot comment first hand.
