Budget for Suppliers

Ria, 23 June, 2022 at 19:04 Posted on Planning 1 13
Hello!
How do you know if you’re getting ripped off by a supplier🙈 I’ve no idea how much to budget for the likes of a DJ, decorations, flowers etc.
We’re based in Leicestershire so input from similar/surrounding areas would be really helpful please!Thank you🥰

We got quotes from 3 different venues, photographers, etc and compared as much like for like as we could. Just filling in the enquiry details on websites will get you brouchers sent to your email, after that you can make arrangements to see venues or meet people. When we did book our venue they had a list of recommended supplies which we have made enquiries with, as well as a couple from google searches and friend recommendations. I also checked out Google ratings and customer comments..... Good luck!

Whilst still super pricey when added up these costs seem quite reasonable in comparison to some I’ve seen so far🙈 your response is really helpful, thank you!

I’m in Nottinghamshire so not far from you.

Our venue is about £120 a head including canapés, drinks package, 3 course wedding breakfast and evening pizza.
Cake is £245, £1200 for flowers (9 table centres pieces, my bouquet, 4 bridesmaids bouquets, 11 buttonholes and flowers for the cake).
DJ is a good friend of ours so did us a very reasonable price therefore I’m not so sure how much is a ‘normal’ price!
Our decoration hire is about £400 including candlesticks, some glass jars, a card box and table runners.
Hair and make up in total for me, my trials, 4 bridesmaids, my mum, future MIL and future SIL is £1000 roughly.
Photographer is £1600 including engagement shoot.
Hope this helps a little! Xx

Deffo ask around, I’m in Nottinghamshire so similar prices to you. I’d deffo get quotes! I’ve been quoted £400-£500 for DJ, then another DJ wanted nearly double. If you click on my name & search my posts, I asked brides for a rough guide on their wedding prices & that helped me loads!

    Leicester here too.

I know all the main Leicestershire wedding venues very well and can say DJ wise that in general the in house ones are good value because they work there all the time and its regular gig.

Costs - if one supplier is much lower than another doesn't mean that the more expensive one is ripping anyone off. It could actually be the other way around.

    IF---

The cheap one tells you the images are edited - but in reality they are not,

It takes months to deliver your images, when you are told weeks.

An impression of experience is implied but have very little

Info reads like they are a professional but only shoot part time.

Mentions backup equipment but the spare camera is low cost and not the same standard as the main one.

    No insurance.

Includes an album - buts its very low quality.

So given the above scenario you would be forgiven asking which one is ripping you off - the cheap one or the more expensive one.

Thanks for the comment re the DJ’s, super helpful!
I completely get what you’re saying with the lower quotes - I’m certainly a bit wary when it seems too good to be true😊The ripping me off comment wasn’t to be taken too literally, I’ve barely started planning/getting quotes and I’m sure there’s the odd individual/company out there to overcharge in such a busy and competitive sector!
Thank you for the helpful response, I really appreciate it🥰

Glad to help. It was a clumsy attempt to make a point perhaps.

If you need any help with choosing a Leicestershire venue I have 21 of them featured in detail on my website which may help you decide here https://photographybybillhaddon.co.uk/

We had gill and gee media do our wedding on centre of Birmingham. They cost about £800 from bridal prep to the first dance and a bit beyond that.

Our venue was the hotel du vin and had a £500 hire charge for the central courtyard plus use of another room for canapes and the bar in the evening with a £1500 minimum spend. The food, super snacks and day drinks pp worked out at about £120pp.
We did dry flowers ourselves and for the table had a candelabra with dry eucalyptus wrapped around it.

Everything we bought we will reuse rather than going ott and it never seeing light again Budget for Suppliers 1
