Hello,

This is my first post and unsure if i'm posting in the correct area ! I have seen a few older posts on plus size dresses and have a couple of bridal shops in mind however we are on a very tight budget and i ideally want to spend under 500 pound if i'm being honest I want to spend alot under 500 if i can ! ( all the wedding is going to be on credit ?) Does any one know of any good budget plus size bridal sho,ps or any other suggestions ?

Thank you for your help Hayley x x

    Hiya Hayley,

this is in near Harrogate http://www.curvybridal.co.uk/

    This is in Castleford http://www.thebigdayuk.com/

    And another in Wakefield! http://plussizebridal-uk.co.uk/index.php/contact-us

I dunno what their prices are like but since they look like they specialise in bigger sizes, it's more that likley that they'll have sale dresses in a better range.

I'm a big bride too and I haven't tried anything on yet but I did have a browse in a shop randomly in Glasgow when I had an hour to kill and the sale rack was full of 18's to 24's! I was really surprised and it made me feel a bit more reassured.

Oo and this one is also in Wakefield and quotes that most of their dresses are around the £500 mark.

Good luck! Let me know how you get on and I'll let you know if I find anywhere else. I am based in Leeds so do let me know if you happen upon any mega bargains!!

    Spen xx

Hi Thanks for the quick reply, I'm based in leeds also ! The three websites you've found are the ones I've looked at also, I really fancied looking at the big day as it gets good reviews on here but the price says 600 upwards which will be out of my range and I don't want to go look if I can't afford any.

plus size bridal says on the site that they belong to amazing brides which were featured on watchdog rouge traders so think I'm giving that one a miss.

we're planning on getting married next September and I'm unsure when to start looking incase of weight loss or gain ! Also my mum isn't aware of my exact size and I'm worried about taking her with me as she hates me being bigger so thinking of doing a per select then taking her with me for final choice but without sizes being disclosed !

Ill let you know if I come across any gems if only money was no object !

Did not know that about amazing brides - mahoosive thanks for the heads up!

By the sounds of it, you might be better off going without her for the first round of trying on. You could always ring 'the big day' and ask if they've got a sale on or if they have one planned. I'm going to go to Abigail's in town to try some stuff on over the summer holidays. I had a natter with them as I only live round the corner and they stock samples up to a 22. I think they are out of my budget but I am going to go anyway incase I find something that I can then search for on preloved / ebay etc. Or I might have won the lottery by then!

Just remembered that there is a dressmaker in Greengates that runs up made to measure vintage style dresses for about £300. Shops called 'from this day forward'. Their website is rubbish but I met them at a vintage wedding fair in Harrogate and their dresses were lovely if I remember rightly. Might be worth a look depending on your style / tastes.

PS Remind your mam that your H2B loves you whatever size you are and the number on the label is no reflection of the girl inside the dress!

I got my dress from Curvy Bridal and it is a lovely shop - they have a knack of picking out the perfect dress! My dress wasn't cheap but the website says that their prices start quite low (£200 I think). If you can get up to Northallerton you could have a look in the Bridal Factory Outlet - they have a massive range of dresses if you're not bothered about a specific designer and although you do get the 'hard sell' it's well worth a look if you're on a budget, plus they had quite a big range of sizes when I went in.

Hi Hayley, this is them: https://www.bridalfactoryoutlet.co.uk/

They have quite a lot of designers mentioned on the site, but I think that they're mostly stocked at their Middlesbrough shop which is the Bridal Boutique Outlet. There is loads of choice there and they were lovely when I went but as I say if you go along be prepared for the hard sell - I didn't dare say that I loved anything in case they talked me into buying it! x

There's a few shops in my area that you could try. I'm in Dewsbury. Not sure what the size range is but worth a visit:-

To have and to hold - Mirfield

    Celebrations - Ossett

    Regalia - Tingley, Wakefield

    Rubens, Ossett

Domino Bridal in Batley. These have been taken over recently and have changed the name but can't remember the new name - sorry!

    Hope that helps!

I've had a look and there is some lovely dresses that i would have snapped up if only i knew what size (I wear anything between a 22 to a 26 but i haven't been shopping in a while so I don't know if thats even correct still now lol useless I know !!! )

Can i ask where you are based ?

how often do you add to the website and is it a quick turn around ( do you have to be fast to get the dress ) ?

just trying to get things sorted in my mind

    Thanks Hayley x

It's next August - I'm doing weight watchers and I've lost 2 n a half stone so far so who knows - might end up in a smaller size afterall but I'm not about to kill myself to get into a smaller dress! I would however, happily have all the fat sucked out if I did happen to win the lottery!

Hi Hayley. Yes. It can be a bit tricky as High Street sizes can differ quite a bit from bridal shop sizes. It's probably worth bearing in mind that, in general, a well-constructed bridal gown can be taken in or out by up to two dress sizes and this should give you a bit of leeway if you're not 100% sure what size to go for.

(Just bear in mind though that it's a lot easier to take a gown in rather than let it out).

If it helps, have a peep at our article:

    Hi Hayley,

Have you tried Monsoon at the Junction 32? I bought mine there yesterday for all of £53!!! They are all just last seasons, some may need a little clean from where other people have wiped their fake tan/ foundation on them when trying them on!! but honestly worth a try in there! I got 10% knocked off mine too just cos it has a bit of foundation on the inside (nothing that a good soak in the bath wont fix)

Or I found a website for a shop im pretty sure it was near huddersfield called limelight, they had a sale on their website and there were some stunning dresses for about £200 not sure on sizes

im a bride on a budget too so always looking for bargains!

    hope this helps

    sarah

    Hi

I knew about monsoon i'm going to look there for bm dresses, however they only go up to a 22 and I think i will need it to be bigger for my dress.

I'll take a look for the website you've mentioned, I think i really need to try them on now though and not just buy off site

    Thank you Hayley x

    Hi Hayley.

The Bridal Bargains website is updated about 3 or 4 times a year and the next update is planned in a few weeks or so.

We typically add about 20 to 40 dresses each time although all the dresses are also available in store as well as online.

We're based in Basingstoke in Hampshire. You can find out more about who we are, our delivery details and returns policy on the website.

    Hope this helps.

The shop nr Huddersfield is Limelight Occasions in Lepton - very easy to find on the Wakefield Road going into Huddersfield. The shop is wonderful and they have some fabulous gowns. I went with our daughter there when she was looking for her dress. The staff are lovely and not pushy at all, just really helpful.
