We are having 25 guests and will be spending less than £4k on the whole day. We looked for private dining options and found a hotel with a wedding licence that had a small function room we can use for our ceremony and reception. We used trip advisor with the private dining option ticked to find them.

Bride on a budget here too and honestly, try and go for places that are not wedding venues! The moment you add "wedding" to anything it adds an extra zero or two!

Get married on a weekday. Get married during the off peak season (Oct/Nov to March). Find a non wedding venue like a restaurant or pub. Choose a small village hall. DIY a lot! Second hand or off the rack dresses/suits. Ask family and friends for help. Don't compare your wedding to other people who are throwing thousands and thousands at their day. lastly, be clear on what you value most and spend the money accordingly. For us it's food and photos!

We planned a wedding for 30 guests for under £3,000 (including a week's honeymoon in Cornwall!).

We got married in our local church and booked a room in a lovely country pub (bonus - stunning gardens for the photos!) for the reception. Venue decoration was DIY garden flowers, so we only bought my bouquet and OH buttonhole. No bridesmaids and best man wore his own suit. OH hired his kilt and I mail-ordered a wedding dress (and have since dyed it to rewear as a 'posh frock'!) Kept an eye on sales and got our wedding rings on a buy one get one half price offer. Supermarket fruit cake with a custom topper to dress it up.

We got married on a Thursday which meant we got a special deal from our photographer. Midweek weddings don't work for everyone, but all our guests were either retired or self-employed, so for many of them, it was easier to come midweek than the weekend anyway!
