Budget wedding for 100 guests

Lauren, 3 September, 2025 at 08:59 Posted on Planning 1 11
Hi everyone!
Me and my partner are a young couple that have been together for 10 years.
We have been engaged for a year and are eager to book our wedding. We have a budget of 5k and are looking for mainly a reception spaces to accommodate our friends and family to have a celebration, we are leaning towards a local registry. We are based in north London but open to options in Hertfordshire and London.
Does anyone have any advise and if it is doable on a 5k budget (for the venue including some food and drink) for around 120 guests?
I have been looking on hitched and we have visited a few places but can’t seem to find any venues that are less than 10k. I think I have looked at over 100 options now.
Please any advice or pointers let me know!
Thank you 💜

    Hi Lauren,

Congratulations on your engagement – such a special milestone after 10 years together!
    I am a wedding planner & coordinator at Crown & Platinum Events - https://www.hitched.co.uk/wedding-planner/crown-&-platinum-events_388441.htm?utm_source=share
I completely understand how challenging it can feel when most venues you’ve looked at are quoting well above your budget.
Your budget is on the tighter side for 120 guests, so a little flexibility will definitely help. It usually means steering away from the “traditional” wedding venues that often start much higher, and instead looking at options like civic halls, heritage/community buildings, or certain countryside estates that allow you to bring in your own catering. These types of spaces can be far more budget-friendly, while still giving you the atmosphere and guest experience you want.
With the right approach, it is possible to balance the venue, food and drink within your figure, though you may need to compromise slightly on the style of service or day of the week. There are some lovely hidden-gem locations both in the city and just outside of it that work beautifully for celebrations of your size, and that many couples don’t even realise are available.
At Crown & Platinum Events, we specialise in creating stylish, elegant celebrations even when budgets feel stretched. I’d be happy to explore tailored options with you and show you how your numbers can go further than they appear at first glance.
Feel free to reach out privately, I’d love to chat through what you’re envisioning and see how we can help you achieve your dream wedding within your budget.

    Hi thank you so much.
I am currently exploring city halls and hotels / restaurants for reception that just require a minimum spend.
We are happy to move away from traditional wedding days. We just want the ceremony (walking down the aisle) and some buffet food and a party for our guest. I am struggling to message you privately please let me know how to do this!

    Hi Lauren,
Thank you for sharing more about what you’re looking for. Your vision of a simple ceremony, buffet, and a great party for your guests is very achievable within your budget, especially if you’re open to city halls and venues with minimum spends rather than the traditional wedding package route.

Since messaging here can be tricky, feel free to drop me an email at **********************@*****.*** that way I can share some tailored options and walk you through how we can bring your day to life within your figure. I’d love to chat more and make this feel a lot less stressful for you.

Congratulations to you both, 10 years together and moving toward your big day is such a lovely milestone! A £5k budget for around 120 guests is definitely tight, but not impossible if you’re flexible with the format and location.

Since you’re open to North London, Hertfordshire, and registry-style ceremonies, you might want to look into local community halls, renovated church halls, and even independent cultural centers. Many of them let you bring your own catering, which can save thousands compared to traditional wedding venues. A friend of mine recently booked a Hertfordshire village hall for under £800 and brought in a local caterer who offered a simple buffet for a very reasonable price, the whole setup looked beautiful with DIY décor and fairy lights.

When you’re comparing options, it really helps to track every line item (venue, décor, food, drinks, sound system, etc.), because little things add up fast. Using something like the Couples Expense Budget Tracker has been a lifesaver for us when planning events around London or any where, it gives a clear breakdown of per-guest costs and helps you see where cuts or swaps can make the biggest difference without compromising the celebration.

Na cidade mais alta, a Guarda, o vento soprava forte e frio. Abriguei-me num café e joguei duo spin .

This article sounds incredibly helpful for anyone planning a budget-friendly wedding! Navigating guest lists and costs for 100 people can be a huge challenge, so I'm keen to read the full details. For creative wedding planning ideas, especially for visual elements like decor concept videos, I've found Video to Prompt quite useful for generating detailed descriptions from video clips.
