Bupa 10k's - can you run/walk?

Jords, 10 May, 2009 at 19:40 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 6

Hey all,

Well the training was all going tickety boo and then bang - illness took a damned good grip which has meant no training now for a good couple of months. I reckon the most I can run now is about 2k, then have a long walk and then probably a few more 2k's and walks.

Manchester 10k is next week. So what do you think - give it a go or defer? I'll feel I've let myself down either way so that's not a factor. Am also slightly worried that by the time I cross the line, all of the officials will have gone, bunting taken down and people laughing at me for being a pleb.

Do people walk these things?

Cheers xxxxxxxx

I've only done one BUPA 10k and it was a big one in Hyde Park, but lots and lots of people walked/run-walked/did it pushing buggies - all sorts. If you're worried about the route being reopened to traffic, or about there being marshalls and water and stuff, check their website or give them a call - that info should all be available.

So from that PoV, it really isn't an issue. However, if you can only run 2k and would then need a long walk break, I'd question whether you're really ready. I don't know what your health issues have been - if walking briskly for 10k is something you'd normally be able to do, then go for it - if you were workiung up to it still I might give it a miss this time.

    Thanks all.

I'd have definitely been able to do it a few months ago - struggled a bit running all the way maybe ... actually maybe not (who can say now though harumph?) I think perhaps I should either go out for a gentle run this evening or a longer hammering on the treadmill tomorrow (where I can track distance properly etc ) and see how it goes. If only it was a 5K and then I wouldn't be having a wobble.

Right - plan of action is this... go out tonight or tomorrow and then make a decision and if it's F.A.B then I'd defo love to meet up with fellow hitcher and run/walk together xx

Thanks all - am feeling far more positive xxxxxxxxxx
