Button Holes - Who has them?

Mrs_T2B, 22 August, 2010 at 13:11 Posted on Planning 0 17

Good Afternoon Ladies, hope you're enjoying thsi glorious sunday ?

Just a quickie....who has button holes?

I know obviously the Groom, Groomsmen and Pageboys have them but who else?

H2B is saying he only wants the Groomsmen to have them, but I'm sure traditionally that it's immediate family. So extra we would have 3x Nannas, 1 Great Gran, 1 Great Grandad & my Grandad (whose part of the Groomsmen), and then the mums would have corsages.

I'm all confuzzled x ☹️ x

It's your choice really. But we have done best man, groomsman, both dads, my brother and the 2 mums have small flowers to pin to their outfits. We are having the dads and my brother in the same suits as the groomsmen so it just makes sense. Hope that helps. x

We had, groom, best man, usher, my dad (no fob around) and that was it. My mum didn't want one as his outfit was silky so it would have damaged the silk and I wasn't even going to both asking my mil since she couldn't even be ar*ed to rsvp.

Hi - Traditionally, it's the Groom who has one just a little bit more 'special' than the others so he stands out as the Groom on the photos. The Best Man, FOB, FOG, and any ushers/groomsmen in attendance. Ladies have corsages which have more flowers in than a buttonhole.

I always advise Brides not to have them for every guest and it's not really expected by them and a lot of them do get wasted. Some ideas in the buttonhole and corsage gallery of my website if that helps - link below.

Totally up to you & what the budget will cover. Most have just the immediate Wedding Party & others do Corsages for Mum's , Grans like this:

& fancy Buttonholes for the Groom, Best Man & Ushers.

Having plain buttonholes for the rest of the Guests.

My H had a calla lilly and thistle buttonhole whereas the others had a double thistle. Unfortunately the double thistle ones looked nicer! oops but I was determined that I wanted him to have a calla lilly to match me.

well we are having the Groom, best man, groomsman, ushers, Page boy, both dads and my Mum's flowers done. The OH's mum didn't like my choice of flower as apparently it wouldnt match her outfit so she is insisting on organising her own! (sorry that wee bit is a sore spot to me!!)

    That's just plain rude!!

We're having fancy buttonhole for h2b, then doing groomsmen, fob and corsages for the mum and my sister if she does a reading x

It's definatly personal choice - we are having loads done! My mom wants family to wear them so we have:

6 detailed ones for the men in suits (excluding H2B who's not wearing one)

    2 MoB corsages

5 Bridesmaid wrist corsage *instead of bouqet*

8 Uncles and my Grandad in single roses

6 aunties / 3 sisters and my nan in double rose buttonholes.

Anyone you want! I'm asking men if they want one, so far we'll have one for groom, best man, fathers, stepfathers, my brother, my grandad, our brothers in law, our nephews and my godson. We're not having groomsmen, H2B unexpectedly asked a friend to be best man last week after saying he didn't want one... Some women will have corsage or a hair comb with the same flowers.

OH is having a rose and thistle button hole.

We're then having rose button holes for the best man, usher, FOB, FOG and OH's Grandad (I don't have any male grandparents still alive ☹️). MOB, MOG, my Nan and Grandma and OH's Granny will have rose corsages. We may get OH's sister and her husband button holes too as we're hoping she will do a reading for us and be a witness.

    Hope that helps.

I didn't bother getting them for each male guest, but sometimes people do.

What we went for - and I think the tradition - is a slightly fancier bh for husband, same bh for the ushers and my dad (would have done both dads if my husband's had been here) and fancier corsages for the mothers.

We ordered thistle buttonholes for OH, BM, ushers, pageboy and FOTG. Then realised after leaving the shop that it was quite odd to get a buttonhole just for the FOTG and no other parent! But I don't know if I should get thistles for my dad and stepdad or roses or what? I'm quite confused by it all!

I'd go thistles - and that way all of the "bridal party" has the same.

I think Dad should definitely have one or he will look left out and as brideseekingblush says, a thistle would be best so everything matches.
