Buying a Second Hand dress from Abroad - Customs Tax?

Hi everyone

I have been looking on second hand wedding dress sites and have found some dream dresses.
I am very happy to purchase my dress this way but am very nervous about customs and import taxes when they get into the UK (most dresses I have my eye on are shipped from outside Europe so America/Australia)

I have reached out to the website owners and they advise that you only pay the taxes on the price you pay for the dress, not the dress RRP, however if this is incorrect the charges could be huge,

Does anyone have any experience or advice for buying your dress this way?

Normally there's set import charges depending on the type of good and what was paid for it I believe. Is there any info on the gov website - this could give an idea into it?

If it helps I'm in the UK and currently selling my dress (I had dress regret!) not sure if it's your style but it's completely unaltered and unworn so its like new but without the new price!
