Cactus in Centrepiece

I need some help. I am having real cactus' in my centrepieces. I have brought sand but I don't know how long it will survive in the sand. It will have soil from where it's in the pot when I buy it, but has anyone else done this that can give me an idea on how long they might last. My wedding is 28th March 24
