Cake cutting? When?

I love shoes, 29 May, 2008 at 19:36 Posted on Planning 0 3

Roughly when are you all cutting your cake (or did cut the cake for those who are already married)?

Our venue has suggested 7.45pm, our evening guests will be arriving at 7.30 ish and it seems a bit late as the casino will have started at 7.30 too

I want it done earlier but not too early that people are stuffed from the meal, meal starts at 3.30 speeches are after the meal at approx 5

Suggestions for time please

We get married at 3pm, sitting to dinner at 6.15, finishing dinner at 8pm and cutting cake around 8.15pm before the evening guests arrive.

Were cutting ours after the speech about an hour before the evening guests arrive and then it will be served in the evening with the buffet

    Hi

It's is totally up to you when you 'cut' the cake. This doesn't mean that it has to be served at the same time. Traditionaly you cut the cake after the speeches, but a few of my weddings this year are using the cake cutting as the 'kick off' of the evening reception. The idea being that not only do the evening guests get involved in some of the traditions but also the cake is served with the evening buffet to fill it out a bit.

If you don't want it included into the evening, I would just have the traditional cake cutting for photos basically, after the speeches and then just serve the cake later with the buffet or as I said, do this at the beginning of the evening to signify the start of the evening. This may need to be announced either by the DJ or toastmaster.

You go with what you think is right,

    Ruth
