We're going camping next weekend, for a week. I haven't camped for many years and suddenly I'm in charge of camp catering for four. What can I cook, since I have only one ring. The boychild is allergic to eggs, so omlettes, scrambles etc are out. Also, just how bad are tinned potatoes? If I saute...

Also, just how bad are tinned potatoes? If I saute them in butter will they taste acceotable?

Wow, thank you all for replying, and for the recipes (especially ONE, loads there). PL, you're right, there shouldn't be too much of an issue with freshness, but I'm not sure how crazy our schedule will be (we're taking the kids holiday club at the camp, so it may be a bit manic), so I have to keep the issue in mind in case we can't get out one day.

Tbh, camping's not my favourite thing, and I'm fairly worried about how Daniel will cope with none of his routine stuff for a week. It may be a steep learning curve about whether we/he can cope with a complete change. The farmer is going to let us use one of his rooms so that one of us and Daniel can sleep in there at night. He's a bad sleeper at the best of times and I think a week in a ready bed might not really work out for him.

He might surprise you.... Although the farmer's offer is good insurance.

Alsorts of kids that you'd never imagine would take to camping/sleeping outdoors love it... And strangely vice-versa.

Depending on the circumstances, it may be worth your while brazening a little initial discomfort or agitation, just in case it 'takes' a bit later in the holiday....
