Can a dress be made less 'poofy'?

Laura, 17 August, 2021 at 09:29 Posted on Wedding Attire 0 3
Hello all,

I know most people on here are in the planning stage so might not be able to advise.
I am not very knowledgeable on dress fitting. I love the detail on my dress but I can't shake the feeling that I would like it to be less poofy at the bottom.Has anyone removed layers from their dress to achieve this? The consultant has put a hoop on with it each time I've tried it, do you really need one? I prefer the slightly elongated look that I see on the hanger.I start fittings in March I think so I have a while yet but I'm aware how time flies by. Thanks so much in advance.

Not done it myself but I have heard of people taking out layers of underskirt to take out some poof. Also you don’t have to use a hoop if you don’t want to, I would try it without and see how it feels and how you can move in it.
My friend started the day with a hoop under her dress but didn’t have it on all day so 100% should be up to you

Thanks ladies, they do have a seamstress at the shop so I will ask when I go 🙂. Good luck with your planning!

You don’t need the hoop if you don’t want it. It does help stop the dress bunching up but as long as the dress is taken up enough it shouldn’t be a problem.
Also a good seamstress should be able to take a few layers too. They can also ‘weight’ the bottom of the dress so it falls straighter. They can do this but folding over the seam to make it a bit heavier.
