Can anyone let me know if Qantas airlines will allow me to carry on my wedding dress from Australia to Scotland?

Hi ladies,

I will be returning to Scotland from Perth, Australia, to be married in August.

I have been experiencing difficulty in finding a clear answer as to what I should do about carrying my wedding dress with me.

Does anyone have any advice for me

Many thanks

Morag

Hi Morag I am also in Perth and I fly home at the end of June to be married early July in North Yorkshire ?. We are flying Singapore Airlines and my fiancee called them to ask about my dress. We were advised that none of the airlines will guarantee hanging space for your dress - it is much better to take it on as carry on in a regulation hand luggage size box or case. It's not too much of an issue for me as my dress is not huge. If you get a helpful cabin crew they may hang it for you but don't bank on it!

I have tried sourcing a wedding dress box and none of the companies deliver to Oz, think I'm going to wrap carefully in a case. I wonder if we got our dress from the same place?

Yes they will - I've done it! (Not to Scotland mind, but same rules will apply. I went Heathrow - Sydney, via Singapore).

I phoned them and they said it had to count as my one item of hand luggage. Actually what I took was a mahoosive handbag that was my "personal item" and the dress and they were fine with it. I gave it to the staff when I boarded and they hung it up in first class, but they did say they couldn't guarantee hanging space. It was summer though, so the first class people wouldn't have had bulky coats etc like they'd have had in winter.

I asked them whether a hanging bag or storage box would be better and they said a hanging bag. It was a pain in the backside to carry it round the airport but at least I knew it was hanging and I could hang it straight up when I arrived.

Yes, Qantas Airlines generally allows passengers to carry on a wedding dress, but it’s best to contact their customer service in advance to make special arrangements. They may allow you to hang it in a closet in the cabin if space permits, or advise you on how to pack it carefully in a garment bag as part of your carry-on allowance. Just like planning a visit to Bugis Junction where you’d want to know store hours or parking details ahead of time for a smooth experience, checking with the airline beforehand ensures your dress travels safely and wrinkle-free from Australia to Scotland.
